Rain was tearing the sky and Rin could swear all distinguishable traces were being effaced by the downpour. He hopped his way back to the dorm but the evil had been done. The earth had combined with the water on the ground, the muddy recipe swallowing his trainers in an earthly offence. He arrived at the porch, trying to scrub the moisture from his shoes, lumps of mud detaching from the sole and the lateral, and plopping lifeless to the ground.
Rin run his way back, the chilly and damp air too much for him to bear, leaving earthy footprints behind. Reaching the kitchen, grumbling and shivering all the way through, he noticed there were two people at the meal table. Yukio and Mephisto were discussing something most likely work-related. The former, upon noticing his brother's artistic arrival, wheezed out a startled "What the hell happened?" His glasses gleamed with exasperation as he looked downwards to admire the distinct brown lumps that were his white trainers.
Rin flung himself in one of the chairs while muttering some ill-humored excuse for the mess in the kitchen floor, something about the skies taking offense at his existence. He downed a glass of juice he found on the table.
"Really, Niisan, why didn't you wear a pair of galoshes if you knew it was going to rain?" Yukio was more than sick of his brother's recklessness.
"Ha! You'll never catch me dead in those evil things." He grimaced.
"I don't see why not." Yukio scolded. "It couldn't possibly hurt you to wear them. Wouldn't you agree Headmaster?"
"Why, of course." Mephisto turned to flash his devious smile at Rin, the purple bangs shadowing the glint in his eyes. "I bet you'd look good on leather."
The sudden silence in the room was ear-splitting.
