Reunion

The two were at an awkward distance, as if they weren't brothers. Anakin shifted nervously from foot to foot, looking exactly as he had when he'd died. The tension mounted until Jacen was sure he'd die (again).

"Took you long enough to get here," Anakin said finally.

"Sorry," Jacen replied, rolling his eyes, "that I couldn't die soon enough for you."

Anakin snorted, crossing his arms. "That's not what I meant. I meant you've been dead awhile and it took you long enough to get here." Anakin gestured around them to the realm of grassy plains and bright blue skies and forests and bubbling streams.

Jacen looked around, looked anywhere but Anakin. "I had to talk to Uncle Luke and Ben first." Jacen realized his voice was that of his younger self, not his Sith Lord self. "Important business."

Anakin nodded and the silence settled again. His younger brother once more began shifting from foot to foot. Watching him, Jacen could feel emotions building up in his chest. Bouncing from one foot to the other had been a nervous habit of Anakin's since he was a kid.

"I couldn't save you," Jacen said quietly, looking up at the blue sky. "I couldn't save you."

He heard pitiful sniffling and looked back down at his brother. Anakin had fat, baby tears making tracks on his cheeks and he looked twelve again.

"I couldn't," Anakin hiccupped. Jacen had never known Anakin to get so sad so fast. "I couldn't save you either." Anakin wiped ferociously at his tears, but Jacen saw that it wasn't any help. The older brother moved forward and hugged his baby brother tightly. "I tried. I tried to save you, but it didn't work. You," Anakin hiccupped again. "You deserved to be happy."

Jacen let out a contented sigh. "I can happy. Right now, I am extraordinarily happy."

(Because who wouldn't be happy to be blessed enough not to spend eternity alone?)
