Chocolate: A Challenge
Dedicated to the challengers- you know who you are! This was written on a wing and a prayer, as I have NO inspiration for this, LoL!

To all appearances, Satine was perfect. There were no flaws, no faults to exploit. She never got sick from singing every night. Therefore, she was always the star.
But Nini knew that the Sparkling Diamond had one weakness. A weakness so small that it seemed unimportant to others. But to Nini, it was her golden opportunity.
Satine loved chocolate. She adored the sweets more than diamonds. She'd willingly sell herself to a mere peddler, just for a bite of chocolate.
Harold knew. He made sure that Satine's fingers never laid hold of the smallest speck of chocolate, no matter how she begged. That was how Nini had learned the secret, from overhearing such an encounter.
From then on, she had plotted her wicked scheme.
She began to buy heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, bringing them stealthily to her room. She addressed each box to "The Sweet Diamond of my heart, from your admirer." Once the Moulin was asleep, she slipped out of her room and left one box outside Satine's room.
Nini waited around the corner until morning, when Satine opened her door. A tiny scream escaped her, a scream more pleasured than anything a lover could elicit. Satine pounced on the box like a starving tiger and darted back inside, slamming and locking the door behind her.
Nini rushed out into the gardens, where she rolled on the ground, howling with laughter. Her plan was going to work, she just KNEW it!
For weeks, Satine continued to find chocolate outside her door, and she continued to devour it on sight and immediately destroy the evidence in her fireplace.
Each night, Nini watched Satine as they dressed for the show. She noted how Marie had to work harder and harder to confine the Diamond's waist into the already-constricting costumes. Her waistline was steadily growing from her secret indulgence, and it was only a very short time until-
"It won't fit!" exclaimed Marie.
Satine peered back at her from under her tresses. "Can't you pull it tighter?"
There was a groan as Marie attempted to do so. "Sorry love, I can't pull any more without bursting the lacing. You can't perform tonight."
Satine whirled around, her cheeks flushed with either anger or embarrassment. Nini wasn't sure which. "What are you talking about? I'm the star, dammit!" She gestured to the corset. "This must have shrunken. Get a new one!"
"There aren't any others, love. Someone else will have to do it."
"But who?"
There was a brief pause. "I will."

"The French are glad to die... for love." A voice rang out across the crowd from the diamond swing. The tuxedo-clad audience peered upward to see not Satine, but a dark-haired beauty suspended above them. Nini's crimson lips parted as she continued to croon, "They delight in fighting duels." She had finally won- SHE was the star of the show, if only for a night.
And back in her room, Satine was eating another box of chocolates.
End.
