Awakening
Cinder's eyes burned with fiery intensity. Her gaze normally composed now flashed with mild annoyance, bewilderment, and disbelief.
Ruby stood there amongst the ruins of Beacon Academy. The young huntress wielding the sniper scythe ready to face her in close combat. Behind her lay the fallen forms of the rest of her teammates.
She'd enraged her. Yang, Blake, and Weiss had gotten the idea to take her on all at once. But even for skilled huntresses like themselves they were of no match to the power of the Maidens.
That was when their "fearless" leader arrived. Of course Cinder avoided being shot at with the wave of a hand. Ruby had then engaged her in melee against the full might of Ruby's crescent rose.
She was angry. Not enough to interfere with her fighting style. But enough that Cinder could feel all the rage and emotion of every strike and swing.
What got Cinder however was something she hadnt expected. Ruby was too taken back by the full extent of the Maiden. Dust, aura, and a high caliber sniper-scythe could only do so much against unfashionable power. Cinder nearly had the young girl right where she wanted.
She used only one hand to launch her attack. It exploded into a great blast but Ruby wasn't harmed. Cinder's eyes widened as she watched Ruby stand hands forward surrounded by a great red glow.
It couldn't be possible. The sight before her seemed genuine. Ruby however merely stood in place confused by what had happened.
"Huh? That blast didn't hit me? But it was a direct hit I know it!"
Yes. Cinder knew Ruby was shouldn't have missed at all. Ruby Rose would have been a complete crisp on the spot if she'd been hit by the blast.
It wasn't aura. Not even aura would have saved her from an attack of the Maidens nature. Cinder could only think of one reason for this instance.
Her eyes have it away. Watching closely Cinder spotted an unmistakable glow. Ruby's naturally silver eyes had taken on a soft glowing. Not as intense as Cinder's fire but definitely a glow all the same.
"You...you have it too."
Ruby blinked. She pulled her weapon close ready to engage in either style.
"Have what?"
"The power. You awakened it. That's why you survived." Cinder raised her hand containing another fire blast.
"I don't know what you mean. But you're going down for what you've done." Ruby's brow narrowed. Her large round silver eyes still holding a glow in defiance.
Cinder was certain Ruby could back up her words. She didn't know how or why she had it. But here Ruby stood empowered by the Maidens same as Cinder. Of all to have it it had to be the Huntress thorn in her side.
Third time was the charm. Cinder fired the blast. Ruby disappeared in the explosion.
She didn't even see Ruby as the Huntress swung Crescent Rose behind her neck.
