I know the story idea is cliche, but it is cute.
Rin had stopped bringing him flowers after she turned 12, and they became more of a rarity, especially since they had returned to the palace. But, here on top of his work papers, lay a delicate white flower. He inhaled the scent. Gardinia. He smirked to himself. A secret admirer, eh? That is what the flower meant. Secret Love. He slipped the bloom in the pages of a large book, closing it and returning it to it's place on the shelf.
It was the same day, a year later that he found a small tulip on his desk. He gently ran his fingers over the delicate petals. Perfect Lover, this one meant. He opened the same book, and slipped the tiny flower into another section of the book. He smiled as he replaced it on the shelf, and returned to his work.
It was becoming a yearly tradition. He looked down on his desk, this time strewn with books, to see a Daffodil laying there. You're the only one. He felt his heart warm. Out came the book, in went the flower, and back on the shelf.
Rin was growing into a woman, but the mysterious flowers still appeared. This time they were a small tangle of Forget Me Not's, true love. Rin had given herself away. He would have never figured it out if it had not been for the forget me not's. They were her favorites. But, without so much of a hint of him knowing the truth, out came the book, in went the flower, and back on the shelf it went.
Her 16th year, the flower was bolder. It was a white violet. Let's take a chance. He smiled, slipping the little flower into the book. That year, Sesshomaru showed her his affections in a steadly increasing manner, with small kisses and gentle touches.
Her 17th year, though, they went back to being sweet. It was an Azaelea, for first love. Indeed, he had been her first love, he'd been her only love. He kissed the petals, knowing that next year would be the sweetest of them all.
Rin had a handful of Lilies, heading to Sesshomaru's study to plant them on his desk. But something caught her eye on her bed. She walked over and gasped.
It was an Ambrosia.
Your Love is Reciprocated.
She ran down the hall to her lord's study and threw her arms around his neck. "I knew you knew, i just knew it!" she cried happily.
Flowers was always their way of communicating love.
