Chapter 1

New Student

The sun shone brightly through the glass in the morning awakening me from my pleasant sleep. I leaned forward rubbing my eyes and swung my legs over the edge of my bed. I yawned, stretched and decided it was time to start my day. I left my room and stepped down the stairs towards the kitchen. I poured myself a bowl of cereal and sat at the dinning table glancing around the empty room until my eyes found the clock. My eyes grew wide when I realized I was going to be late for school! I dropped my spoon into the bowl with a loud CLANK, milk splashing on the table, but missing me slightly. Grandpa is going to complain about the mess when I got home.

I raced to the front section of my home which from the outside was the Kame Game Shop. Swinging open the downstairs door I made haste to the front door. "Have a good day at school Yugi!" I heard my grandpa call from behind me as I ran past him.

"Thanks grandpa I will, and sorry about the table!" I say as a open the front door to exit. "What about the table?" I could hear the confusion in his voice which only made me giggle in response and I continued to run to the side walk and towards the school.

It was only a ten minute walk to the school from my house and the crisp morning air was refreshing as I took breaths letting it's coolness fill my lungs. I'm 17 years old and currently in my senior year at Domino high school. I started walking on the grass towards the front of the school.

"Yugi!"

I turned around to see Anzu running towards me. Anzu is a childhood friend of mine. I've known her for as long as I can remember. I have always loved her, but when I confessed my feelings to her she rejected me saying that she saw me more as a little brother then a lover. She said little brother because I'm shorter then she is. In fact I'm shorter then most people my age. It gets to me sometimes.

"Good morning Yugi!" She says with a smile.

"Hey Anzu, have you seen Joey yet?" Trying to steer myself away from her

"Yeah he's over in the smoke pit getting into god only knows what kind of trouble today" she said with a sort of disgusted look on her face. Who was she to judge? Irritated with her last comment, I tilt my head away from her.

"Okay I'll see you later then." I turned before she could say anything else and ran to the gravel trail. Didn't she understand that my feelings were still hurt? I really hate the she acts extremely nice to me now out of pity. I don't really care if she feels guilty it would be easier if she just left me alone for awhile instead of pretending that nothing happened.

"Hey Joey! We should probably start heading to class now shouldn't we?" I asked trying ignore the looks and glares I was receiving from the surrounding people. I was really out of place in this crowd.

"What already!? I wanted to hang out here for a bit before sitting though 8 hours of hell!" A felt a frown form on my face as my gaze shifted to the ground. "Yeah, okay Joey". I could feel his gaze on me before taking a drag from his smoke "On second thought I don't wanna be late again, Mr. Gates might smack me in front of everyone again!"!"

"What your really leaving? I thought we were skippin' this class?" One of the guys whined to joey.

"Nah! Catch ya later!" Waving his hand and throwing the remainder of his smoke on the ground putting it out with his foot and grabbing me by the arm and dragging me towards the school. He knew that I was still depressed about Anzu rejecting me, but never brought it up which made things easier on me. Instead he distracted me with hilarious stories and making dares for himself. Joey wasn't the brightest, but he was my best friend.

"Betcha don't think I can jump that railing do ya?" Smirking pointing to the rail right before the schools entrance steps.

"I'm just going to say no so I can see you fail" I say with a smirk.

"Is that so? Well get ready to be AWED!" He turned and bolted for the railing gaining speed as he got closer. Right before he was about to jump his feet slid on a wet leaf on the grass, smashing into the railing and flipping over it and smacking onto the ground. I couldn't control my laughter and fell onto the grass sitting with my legs crossed holding my sides. Joey quickly stood up and hustled over to me.

"So," he started patting off his clothes "technically I still made the jump and got to the other side." He extended his hand lifting me from the grass.

"Joey" I said in between laughing, "You didn't even jump. So you technically you didn't." We laughed as we headed towards class. "That went way better than I expected."

The bell rang as everyone scrambled to their seats. The teacher picked up his clip board and walked to the front of the class. "Everyone we have a new student joining our class today, his name is Yami Sennen. Please make him feel welcome. Please come in Yami." We all watched as the door slid open and he entered. He wore a sleeveless black leather V neck shirt. His jacket was also made of black leather with metal spikes on the shoulder left unzipped and open. He wore black jeans with a studded belt and chains hanging the loops. His tri-coloured looked like mine but instead was blood red instead of purple with electric yellow bangs with three streaks lifting into his spiky hair. He stood with his arms crossed across his chest. His crimson eyes were slightly glowered. His shiny hoop in the left side of his lip reflected the sunlight and a silver ring on the right of his nose. Whoa was he wearing eyeliner? His eyes just look like they could pierce your soul if he looked hard enough. 'If looks could kill' I thought. I sighed realizing this guy was going to be popular no matter what his personality was like because of his looks. This guy was the definition of a total bad ass.

Suddenly the whole class erupted in whispers and awes. "Please take a seat." The teacher gesturing towards the desk beside mine.
