Episode: Just Say No
Disclaimer: Um, I own nothing.
Summary: This is my take on the conversation we didn't see on air.
Feedback: I love it's like ice cream for me.
A/N: I never actually saw this episode, but I did read the transcript a bunch of times and I saw screencaps.
Somehow she knows something about I'm about to tell her. Did she overhear Will and me? I don't know, but I do know that I'm stalling. I have to do this. I'm not quite sure how this will help her, but she has to know. She has to be aware of the danger, be aware of the very real possibility that this can happen to her. I take a deep breath, trying to decide how to start.
"Joan, the paintings you found…"
"You were in pain, something bad, right?"
"Yes, yes I was. I was hurt and I was confused. I pray you'll never have to feel what I felt."
"What happened, Mom?"
"I was in college. It's like they say, you know, it's the best time of your life. It was the best time of my life until…"
"Someone hurt you, deep?" I nodded, trying to supress the tears. I can't breakdown now; I have to tell her everything.
"Before this I had never felt pain like I did after. But it wasn't just pain, I was also very angry. Someone stole something from me, something very precious. And I was angry. You don't know this kind of anger, Joan. This was beyond anger even, it was fury. And I couldn't do anything about it. So I did those paintings. Those were my only outlet. Now, I can't look at them. They bring back feelings I don't want to remember."
"What happened, Mom. What was stolen?" I looked into her eyes. I was seated on her bed now, and I reached across and brushed a stray strand of hair out of her face. I wanted to avoided actually saying it; I was hoping I could say enough that she'd get it without me actually saying it.]
"My roommate had gone to spend the night at a friends dorm one night. I was alone, there wasn't much to do that night so I decided just to get ready for bed and read a little. I never expected anything like that would ever happen to me." I looked up into my baby's face, looking for a sign that she understood. I saw it in her eyes; they were clouded with tears. She rushed at me, wrapping her arms around my neck. The tears were flowing freely now, both mine and hers.
"Oh, Mommy. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. He was right it was evil." I stroked her hair, confused.
"Who baby, who was right?" She pushed away from me and stared at me. It was as if she was wrestling with some kind of decision.
"No one, Mom. I just knew something was wrong, I knew it had to be horrible. You've been acting strangely."
"Honey, I told you this as a warning. Life feels safe, but the possibility is always present."
"I know Mom, I know."
"Your Dad was very adamant about you knowing. He's been working on a case. Those kind of cases always get him. It's like he's trying so hard to catch the guy who… Well, anyway, I hope he'll never like he has to get justice for you."
"I'll be careful, Mom. I promise I will." I hugged her before getting up to leave. Before I opened the door, I looked back at her sweet face and prayed she'd always be safe.
"We love you, Joan."
"I love you both, too."
