Armin glanced at Eren, who was currently sleeping on Mikasa's shoulder. The cart hit a bump in the road, causing his friend to shift and fall on Rivaille.
He half-expected the shorter male to shove him off but he didn't. Instead he asked Mikasa to take him back. Well, something like that.
"Get the idiot off of me."
It was close.
Mikasa sneered.
The blond tuned out Mikasa's and Rivaille's silent argument and thought of the mission. It was an utter failure. Everything that could've gone wrong did. Now Eren's neck is on the line, literally.
He watched as Eren got pushed down on his knees in front of the court room. Whispers and gossip filled the room. 'Will the traitor finally get what he deserves?', 'Maybe now they'll see how useless he is.' Oh how Armin wanted to just go up to them and shove his fist right up their as-
"Let the brat live."
He blinked. What?
The Corporal spoke swiftly, not missing a beat, "He'll be of use to Hanji; the brat might be able to speak to the titans that the others managed to capture. Or he could be bait, since the titans seem to be after his ass. I don't know why, his ass isn't much from both perspectives."
Did he just defend Eren? He thought that he hated his guts.
"And before you give me some bullshit excuse that he can turn in to a titan, I know that I'm not stupid, and eat us, think. If we kill him, the person that the titans desire, off, that'll just lead them to killing us faster."
Instead of waiting, Rivaille grabbed Eren roughly and pulled him out, "I'm going to take care of his wounds. He'll be of no use if he bleeds out."
"Corporal, t-thank you for doing that."
He raised his brow as if say, 'What the hell are you blabbering about?'
"For saving Eren. Y-you have my utmost gratitude. "
Rivaille just gave a soft 'hmm' and turned his head away. Maybe to most, it looks like he just brushed the comment.
Armin noted the light blush that covered the captain's cheeks but didn't say anything about it. He wanted to live, even though joining the Scouting Legions is the exact opposite of it.
