THE DANCE BETWEEN DARKNESS AND LIGHT

By: Vanessa Sgroi

"It matters not how fast light may travel, darkness will always
be there awaiting its arrival." ~Mark W. Boyer

Dean eased up against the hood of the Impala, coffee cup clenched between thumb and index finger, and crossed his ankles. He sipped at the hot brew, watching the pinky-orange glow climbing on the horizon. He felt the car dip as Sam eased up next to him.

"Kinda pretty, isn't it?" he murmured into the early morning chill.

"It is." Sam sipped from his own cup. "Dean, what are you doing out here at the crack of dawn?"

Dean shrugged. "Couldn't sleep. Decided to enjoy the sunrise. When you think about it, it's kinda

nice to see the light overtake the darkness." He let his words hang in the air.

"True enough. I guess you could say it's a sign of hope...renewal...new beginnings."

Dean took another sip. "Or it's just the start of another long day," he joked.

Sam snorted. "Or that."

"So about that new hunt you think you found...the evidence is pretty shaky. But we're both up so why don't we go check it out?"

"I'm in." Sam started to turn away. Dean's hand on his arm halted his progress.

Dean gestured toward the horizon with his cup. "Let's finish watching this first."
