Memories
Ah, high school may be over, but the memories will (hopefully) last a lifetime. Band is so many amazing and wonderful things, so I thought I'd share some of them with you, in hopes, that those that read it will be inspired to continue and work hard, because in the end, it's all worth it.
Band is…
-Enjoying the fact that you're depriving yourself of oxygen.
-Being early to practice because you actually think it's fun.
-Dying in the summer heat to create the perfect show.
-Marching long and hard to be hardcore.
-Showing the football team whose field it really belongs too.
-Standing at attention because you really are proud.
-Walking onto a field and being one with 80 other people.
-One band, one sound.
-Leaving the state or the city and seeing other people in bands and automatically having something in common with them.
-Making instant friends with those with band experience at another school, because you truly have shared a common bonding experience.
-Learning life's lessons from the biggest and craziest family you'll ever have.
-Loving hard work because it is always worth it.
-Teaching the freshman to march and hoping they will continue your legacy.
-Wanting to cry at the last show and last practice, knowing that a huge chapter in your life is over.
-Knowing that you can do anything because you do have the power.
-Marching onto that field with pride in your heart and soul, ready to kick some major butt.
-Realizing that you wouldn't want to be anywhere else, because this is your home.
And finally…
-Walking into the band room for the last time and wondering where all the time went, would the memories fade, would the friends last, was it all truly worth it, the ups, the downs, the sweat, the tears, the pain, the heartache, the "wasted" time, the sunburns, the dehydration and hard work?
Yes, it was. Every minute of it. The friends are still around, the pain has faded, but the laughter still rings free. Yes, I do feel out of place now, going back, but I know that I was part of a great and awesome legacy, that hopefully will continue to inspire and mold future generations. I'm glad I did band, and I'm proud to say I was a nerd and still am a nerd. Because, in the end, it was all worth it.
Please R/R. I would appreciate feedback and I always like to hear from bandies near and far.
