Alfred F. Jones sat on his sofa reading a comic book, while his boyfriend Arthur worked on his embroidery. "Honestly, couldn't you read some real literature for once?" Arthur asked the American, not looking up from the piece he was working on.

"Hey, Captain America is awesome!" Alfred protested. "He's a hero like me!" He flashed his 1000 watt grin. The elder rolled his eyes.

"Why not read something by quality writers like Edgar Allen Poe or William Shakespeare for once?"

"Cause they're boring! And there's no pictures!" Alfred whined, setting down the comic book.

"So what? They'll add brain cells which you clearly need." The Briton added calmly.

It took a moment for Alfred to figure out that he had been insulted. "Hey, I'm not stupid!" he said, "Dense, but not stupid!"

"Yes, you are, but I still love you." Arthur kissed Alfred's forehead before standing up and leaving the room to refill his teacup. Alfred waited until he was safely in the kitchen before fishing the small ring box out of his pocket and examining its contents. It was a simple gold band with an emerald set inside, the jewel the same colour as Arthur's eyes. He would do it this week, he vowed to himself.

Thusly, four days later, they sat on the sofa once again, this time watching a movie. As the end credits rolled, so did Alfred's stomach. It was now or never. "Hey Artie?"

"Yes Alfred?"

"I did what you said and tried to read Shakespeare, but it made my brain hurt. So instead of using one of his poems, I decided to write one of my own. Wanna hear it?"

The Brit sighed exasperatedly. "I suppose."

Alfred grinned and got up off the couch, standing in front of the other blonde. "Roses are red, and blue is the sea. This idiot would be honored," here he kneeled and pulled out the ring box, opening it. "If you married me." His eyes were full of hope, Arthur's full of tears. "Arthur Kirkland, we've been together for seven years, and I've loved you every moment of that time, even before. I know I don't deserve you, so I'm leaving it all up to you. Will you marry this idiot?"

Time seemed to stand still, and Alfred began to panic. What if Arthur said no? He looked to the Brit, who nodded. A nod. A yes. "Yes," he whispered gently, emerald eyes filled with happy tears. "Yes," he repeated a bit louder. Alfred got up off his knees, smiling wider than was humanly possible. He slipped the ring onto Arthur's finger and pulled him in for a passionate kiss. Nothing else in the world mattered in that moment. They were together. Arthur pulled away, eyes still moist. "What took you so long?" he asked. Alfred merely laughed gently and pulled him back in for another kiss. It soon turned to more, and later on, they just lay together enjoying each other's presence; no other cares in the entire world.

A/N: Well, that's number one. If you couldn't tell, this is basically where I draw to random characters and a random prompt and write. I'll also include any translations as it goes. I am also taking requests in the reviews. And please, review so I know what I need to improve on and what you think.
