Things Turn Out RIght

Summary: After a spell goes wrong, Sofia starts to give up hope on being an apprentice until Cedric reminds her that even when all hope is lost, things will be okay in the end. *Inspired by a scene from Disney's underrated 1977 film The Rescuers.

Disclaimer: I do not own Sofia the First or The Rescuers. They belong to the Walt Disney company.

Author's Note: Yep, another Sofia and Cedric friendship story. And surprisingly, I like The Rescuers even with its flaws, how hateful Madame Medusa could be, and how some people find the orphan girl Penny annoying (I'm one of the few that don't and would adopt her in a heartbeat if she was real). Anyway, enjoy the story.

"I'm so sorry Mr. Cedric! I didn't mean to! It was an accident!"

Sofia looked over at Cedric's pet raven Wormwood-rather cat now-as she looked up at her friend and mentor.

"Sofia, it's okay. I know how to change Wormy back," Cedric felt Wormworm rub against him as the sorcerer laughed. "Though I would like to keep him like this to take care of the mice that's been in here lately."

"I don't know about that Mr. Cedric," The little princess sighed, putting her hands to her face. "Maybe I'm just not cut out to be your apprentice anymore."

Cedric put a hand on her shoulder. "I wouldn't say that princess. You've been a wonderful apprentice."

"But what if I mess up in another spell? What if I hurt someone?" Sofia placed her head on Cedric's workshop table, her short curls sagged on her shoulders in sadness.

Cedric sighed, looking at his student's depressed state. He had never seen her this gloomy as she was always cheerful and full of life, even if it did get on his nerves whenever he wasn't in the mood for it.

"Sofia, you won't mess up again. I promise," Cedric said, having the auburn haired princess lift her head off his workshop table.

"What do you mean?" Sofia eyed her mentor suspiciously.

"When I was a lad, my mother had this saying. It went something like this: 'Hope is a bluebird. When it is lost, you eventually realize that things will be okay at the end even in the toughest of times.' Are you understanding what I'm saying?"

"Yes. But why is there a bluebird named Hope?"

"Sofia, it's just an expression," Cedric laughed, causing Sofia to laugh as well.

Once the two were calm and collected, Sofia looked at Wormwood who was lazily licking himself as she and Cedric heard King Roland sneeze from down below the workshop windows while the queen tried to shoo a cat away from him.

"I should change Wormy back to normal before your father comes up here," Cedric knelt down to his student's level, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Sofia, get your trainer's spellbook. I'll show you how to change a different animal back to its normal form the right way. If you mess up, remember the sorcerer's secret or Hope the bluebird."

"You got it Mr. Cedric!" Sofia ran off to get her spellbook as Cedric smiled

I'm going too soft on that girl. And to think I used to only want her amulet! At least it's worth it to see Sofia-my friend-smile, Cedric thought happily as Sofia came back with her spellbook, sending them straight to work on changing Wormwood back into a raven.
