Aubrey sat looking out over the lake and sighed. She'd just gotten off the phone with her dad and she was feeling tense. He was a very difficult man to have a conversation with, and the two of them had struggled having conversations without it turning a debate, and that is exactly what had just happened. Trent Posen did not approve of his daughter's choice of profession at all, and saw it as a waist of her talents. But, Aubrey knew better. She was a naturally bossy, intense person, and to her this job could not have been more perfect. It had been a year since she started the business, and her father still rang every other week to tell her how much he disapproved.
Aubrey sighed as she lowered herself so that she was lying down on the grass. It was peaceful. All she could here was the wildlife and the distant voices of the Bellas getting ready for bed. The sun had just begun to set, and the sky was clear. She let her eyes close for a moment or two, allowing her body be relieved of more tension.
"Hey." Came a soft voice from behind her.
Aubrey sighed, knowing exactly who is belonged to, and opened her eyes.
"Are you okay?" Stacie asked, taking a seat beside Aubrey.
"Yeah, just thinking." Came Aubrey's calm reply, a small smile resting on her lips.
The two sat in silence for a few minutes before Stacie spoke, her voice still soft. "This place is gorgeous."
Aubrey looked over at the younger girl for the first time since she entered. Her lighter hair suited her, and made her look even more beautiful. The two of them had always had a special connection. It was acknowledged often by either girl, but they both felt it when they were close, like there was something lingering between, something more to be said.
"It is." She responded.
"And you're happy here." It wasn't a question. Stacie could see how different Aubrey was now. How calm she was. "I like seeing you happy."
Aubrey's head snapped back to the girl at this. She was acknowledging their connection.
Stacie chuckled, "Don't look at me like that, Aubrey."
"Why do you say that?" Aubrey asked, referring to the statement before.
"Because it's true. You're special to me Aubrey, and in all the time I've known you, you were always intense and stressed out. Now, you're so in your element. It's nice to get to see you like this."
"Can I ask you something?" Aubrey asked, slightly nervous.
"Of course." Stacie responded immediately, knowing what she would ask.
Aubrey sighed, "There is something here, right? There's something between us, I mean. I'm not wrong, am I?"
"No. You're not wrong."
"Well, what is it?"
Stacie smiled softly at Aubrey, "It's whatever you want it to be."
That's all Aubrey needed to here. She leaned over slowly, pressing her lips softly against Stacie's. The younger brought her hands up to Aubrey's neck, letting one run through her hair.
The kiss didn't last too long, in fact it ended it too quick for either of their liking, but they could hear the cheering of their friends who had obviously been watching.
Stacie blushed, realising that their privacy had been invaded.
"It's bed time, unfortunately." Aubrey stated, smiling softly, before standing and holding out her hand for Aubrey to take. Stacie accepted the blonde's hand, and let Aubrey lead her over to the tent where the other's were pretending not to have seen anything.
"Oh please, we could hear your giggling from over there." Aubrey scolded, before facing Stacie. "Night." She said softly, blushing slightly at the intimacy.
Stacie pressed her lips to Aubrey's, "Goodnight."
Stacie endured a lot of teasing in the tent that night, but none of it could wipe the smile from her face.
