Interested by the mark he tried to learn about it, and some how found out how to remove the mark so he told metatron and then years later when dean and sam break metatron out of heaven and ask him how to remove the mark he tells them about the monster of all how he knows how but he doesn't know where he is. They then decide to kill him but tells them that he knows wher catiels grace is and doesn't die. Sam and dean then try and find the monster of all.
