Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha... or the song "Silver and Gold," but then I'm not sure anyone owns that song.
Silver and Gold
"Silver and gold, silver and gold...," echoed throughout the forest as our favorite school girl walked away from the well. On her way back from a Christmas celebration with her family, hence the singing.
She giggled, her mind full of citrine eyes and argentine hair and her stomach full of Grandpa's eggnog. Voice raised louder, she continued, "Everyone wishes for silver and gold. How do you measure it's worth?"
Wind whipping around her, Kagome weaved slightly and was shoved into her memories. More gales of wind, surrounding her lover's mangled form-- sword still in hand. Her friends and allies continued the battle as she stood there.
Why? Why now? They'd been in this together for years and now-- now, at the finish line-- she felt metaphorically tripped. The warm, golden sun was blocked. The wind brought clouds, with no silver linings, covering everything. Blocking out everything.
Then... her mind went dark.
Just by the pleasure it gives here on Earth.
"Kagome! Come on now, everyone is waiting for you!" The hanyou hurried over to his friend, his worry barely concealed. "They didn't want to start without you."
She shook the fragments away and smiled softly, "Let's not keep them waiting then, shall we?"
A/N: Oh my! How about that? I think staying around all these depressed, sick people is making me a little angsty. Anyway, if you keep up with iy fanfic on livejournal, it was posted there as "Squallish Rememberance" or something.
