Hi readers! This story was inspired by something that happened in my life lately. I hope you enjoy! Please, please, please review!

She stared at the person that walked into the room. The one person she never thought she'd see again. The person that at one time she'd hoped never to see again. Nancy could feel the eyes of almost everyone in the room on her as Frank glanced softly, almost sadly, at her. Nancy felt her heart beat, double, then triple as he made his way across the room
"Hello Nan." He said gently.
"Hi Frank." Nancy said a little awkwardly. Nancy's eyes prickled as she saw the background of sadness in Frank's eyes.
"How are you?" Frank asked.
"Fine. You?"
"I'm alright."
There was an awkward silence as Frank and Nancy watched the engagement party. The bride and groom-to-be, otherwise known as Joe and Vanessa, were totally enjoying themselves. The two stood arm in arm with champagne glasses in their hands.
"Nan?" Frank asked hesitantly. Nancy looked up at him from where she sat in the corner of the room.
"What?" She said. Frank turned toward her.
"Can we talk?" He practically begged. Nancy shrugged.
"Sure." She said. "Go ahead." Frank shook his head.
"Not here, outside." He said. Nancy's heart stopped then roared back to life. Outside? Alone?
"I guess." She said, struggling to keep her voice from squeaking. Frank smiled for the first time that evening.
"Alright." He said.

"So. . ." Nancy said, stuffing her hands into her mini skirt pockets. "What did you want to talk about?" Frank picked some imaginary lint off of his jacket sleeve.
"I don't know." He said with a laugh. "I was hoping you could come up with something." Nancy laughed then was silent. The music drifted from the open doorway. Nancy studied the small slump in Frank's shoulders that hadn't been there before.
"I'm sorry Frank." Nancy said out of nowhere. Frank glanced at her but remained silent.
"I never set out to hurt you." Nancy began. Frank looked at her and nodded.
"I know." He said. Frank and Nancy stood in silence for the longest 10 minutes in Nancy's life.
"Look Nance," Frank began. "Can't we at least be friends? I know we could never go back to where we were but couldn't we be friends?" Nancy's face broke into a smile.
"Of course." She said. Frank grinned back at her.
"Friends." He said.
"Friends." Nancy replied.

Couple years later- -
"Uncle Frank!" "Nancy!" Two toddlers tumbled out of the doorway of a brick house and onto the couple walking up the path.
"Hiya kiddo." Frank said, picking the child up. Vanessa and Joe walked out of the house and greeted the guests.
"Have you asked her to marry you yet, Frank?" Vanessa asked. Nancy blushed as Frank held up her hand to show off the emerald and diamond engagement ring. Vanessa squealed and hugged Nancy tight.
"Finally!" Joe shouted.
"Joe." Vanessa scolded.
"What?" Joe asked innocently. "After that break up nobody thought they'd ever get back together." Vanessa nodded.
"True." She said. She grabbed Nancy's hand and pulled her inside.
"Tell me the details." Joe and Frank heard Vanessa say as the two girls went inside. Joe swung one of the toddlers onto his shoulders and looked at Frank.
"They'll be busy for a while." He said. Frank nodded and picked up the other toddler. Laughing, Joe and Frank walked into the house behind the girls.
