What would happen if Zuko couldn't fire bend in a fight against Sokka?

The Duel

Presented by Reprimand

It had been a tense day between Sokka and Zuko. They just couldn't seem to get along or work together on anything. Setting up camp, getting some bait for fishing, Sokka had almost off Zuko's head when he was turning with the spear on his shoulder, Zuko accidently burnt sokka because he was down wind his firebending practice. Endless reasons that should have drove them to kill each other but the put it aside for the good of the group. One thing finally set it off.

Sokka was walking down one of the halls of the eastern air temple; the old team had been staying there to take in the whole idea of a world without war. The war had been around their whole lives and now it was finally gone. Continuing around the corner sokka turned only to find zuko speaking with Suki. Sokka felt something within him stirring like a beast circling in a cage.

"So, I wanted to come with you and Sokka to tell everyone on Kyoshi Island about the end of the war. You know to show that I'm not the same person who burnt down the village." Zuko said showing a lot of embarrassment on his face.

"Well I'm not sure. They were showing a lot of prejustice against the fire nation before we might not be the best idea." Suki said trying to brush him off.

Sokka walked over to Suki and said something in her ear, so quietly Zuko couldn't hear even a whisper. Suki nodded and agreed to whatever it was.

Sokka walked over to Zuko with a large grin on his face.

"Zuko, I'll make you a deal. If you want to come to Kyoshi with us you have to beat me at little sparring match." Sokka said with the utmost confidence.

"Well, I don't know. I wouldn't want either of us to get hurt. So, I'll agree if we don't use real weapons."

"I have some wooden spares, but I have another condition: No fire bending!" Sokka said with the face of a gambler who just played his trump card.

"Alright, I accept."

Two hours later Sokka and Zuko were taking their stances as the rest of team avatar watched.

Zuko started off with a dual cross strike aimed a Sokka's midsection. Sokka moved in low to the ground and struck upward with the butt of his sword's handle to Zuko's solar plexus. Zuko stumbled backwards with the air knocked out of his lungs, gasping for breath. Sokka took advantage his weakness and charged.

Zuko's acting was paying off; Sokka was moving into the trap Zuko had set up.

Sokka charged and slid underneath the rather surprised Fire Lord. As Zuko struck Sokka was directly beneath him. Without thinking about where he was kick Sokka let a swift kick fly to Zuko's groin from below. Still sliding Sokka tumbled into a recovery stance. He took the offensive once again.

Sokka lunged at his opponent with enough force to send Zuko to a healer. Zuko immediately set a parry and swung at Sokka's sword hand with his other broadsword. The blow connected with a sickening crack, Sokka's whole right arm fell limp.

Sokka knew he was beat, with just his left hand, his sword on the ground and Zuko within striking range he'd never be able to best him. Mentally and physically wounded, Sokka fell backwards, not caring whether he would hurt himself or not.

Knowing that kind of pain, Zuko grabbed Sokka's good arm and pulled him back to his feet before he hit the ground.

"You fought admirably; we both know I couldn't have kept that pace for long." Zuko said with a look of complete understanding.

Using himself as a crutch, Zuko helped Sokka over to Katara who stood ready with a handful of healing water.

With all of his friends around him Sokka couldn't help but feel as if he was the one who was truly victorious.

Knowing the feeling of friendship as well, Zuko walked off to pack. He couldn't help but to smile all the way to his room.
