Chapter One: The Power of Three Is Broken

Summary: In an alternate universe, Prue gave up her powers on the Charmed Ones' first anniversary. What will Piper and Phoebe do to retain the Power of Three?

After getting the Book back from Abraxas, Prudence Halliwell stood over it. She flipped through countless pages of the Book of Shadows, looking for one thing in particular. As Phoebe walked into the attic, Prue looked up. "Phoebe, we can write our own spells, right?"

"Yeah, why?" asked Phoebe. Prue gave her a look. Phoebe started shaking her head. "Prue, no. You can't. It's our birthrite, and what about the Power of Three?"

Piper entered the attic then. "What's going on?"

Phoebe looked at Piper. "Prue's giving up her powers."

"What? No, Prue. You can't." Piper walked over to Prue's side. Prue was beginning to write something down in the Book.

You only hurt, it isn't right.

This is dark, is isn't light.

My powers are forever bound,

Forever lost, and never found.

No more demons come from Hell,

Take it from this Halliwell.

"Prue, I swear, if you say that spell, I will kick your ass," said Phoebe.

Prue shook her head. "No you won't. I have to do this. You'll find some way to survive without my powers. I have a feeling that the Power of Three is forever. 'You only hurt, it isn't right. This is dark, it isn't light. My powers are forever bound, forever lost, and never found. No more demons come from Hell, take it from this Halliwell.'"

An orb came out of Prue's body, flying out the window and disappearing. Prue closed the book and then tried to throw a lamp at the wall telekinetically, but it didn't work. The lamp didn't move an inch. Prue looked at her sisters. "They're gone."

"Oh my god, look at the Book," said Piper.

All three Halliwells looked at the front of the book. The triquetra on the front split into three separate parts. The top part of it disappeared. More orbs started appearing, squirling around each other in a spiral. The ghost of Grams appeared. "Prudence, what have you done?"

"Grams," said Prue quietly.

"Prue, Andy's death was not your fault. Why on Earth would you be so quick as to give up your powers?" asked Grams in disbelief.

"Because who knows how many more people will have to die for us to vanquish demons," answered Prue.

Grams gave her a long look. "The Power of Three is broken, but it can be repaired. There is another Charmed One. Another sister."

"Another sister? What are you talking about, Grams?" asked Piper.

More orbs appeared in a spiral fashion. Patricia Halliwell's ghost appeared right next to Grams'. "Mom, no. I should be the one to tell them."

"Tell us what?" asked Phoebe. "That we have another sister that we were never told about?"

"A half-sister, actually," answered Patty. "Her name is Paige Matthews. She's the child I had when I was in love with my whitelighter, SamWilder. You have to find her and reunite the power of three."

"Where is she?" asked Piper.

Grams and Patty looked at each other. Grams said, "You have to find that out on your own."
