Arizona Robbins, Dr. Robbins... Pediatric & Fetal Surgeon. People fly from all around the world for her to help their sick child. Today was no different when her pager blared at 2:05 am, so she could save not one but two lives which were unable to withstand the trauma. Arizona became a doctor for moments like this, where nothing matter, not even the time when a patient's life was in her hands.
"Page Dr. Karev, this baby may have to come out today."
The surgery was going smoothly until the mother coded due to an unknown cause for know.
"The baby has to come out now, the mother can't take the pressure and extra load! Alex, you got the baby?"
"Yeah, I got it," Alex says holding the precious little girl in a blue cloth.
Doing a minimal scarring stitch on the mother's incision line. I leave the cleaning and bandaging to the intern who is quietly jotting notes.
"I am done here, I will go talk to her family."
"Wait, Robbins can you help me here for a sec?" Alex asked.
"What's up, Karev, you seem to have this under control."
Alex dropped his voice, "You think you are gonna be okay talking to the family, you know on a day like this?"
"What do you mean a day like this."
"May 17?" He muttered under his breath, "The Crash."
'Come on, be professional.' "Alex would you mind talking to her husband, or is it, boyfriend.." Who is that man? Why is the room getting small, and oxygen getting harder to breathe?
"Somebody remove my mask! NOW!"
"You heard her, Kenzie!"
The mask was removed from my face while I heaved into a medical grade trash can. Taking a few breaths I rip off my gloves and gown, I need to get out of here.
'Where do I go?' Come on! I can't stay here, not right now. Think! Think!
The roof. The elevators are painfully slow, so I run up the steps and flights of stairs.
Oh, how ironic, in running away from a plane crash by going up a flight.
It is thunderous and rainy, but none of it matters, I stand there trying to breathe in cold air to stop the burning in my lungs. Thunder cracks and my hand immediately covers left thigh. I try to scream but no noise comes out. Phantom pain triggers aren't usually this bad. My leg burns and throbs, not even the wind and cold weather can soothe it. The leg shatters, I can't catch myself, falling to the ground. I can't move, it is like my leg is trapped underneath the plane's metal, and bugs are crawling out of my leg. I try to shout for help but all that comes in return is a whisper, nothing can stop my tears now.
When all hope is gone, the door flings open.
"Callie… Calliope save me, please… please."
The voice is deep and rugged, not one I am used to, I squint trying to focus the blurry image I see.
"Hey.. hey it's me, Alex, come on I got you." He says picking my lifeless body. I can't keep my eyes open any longer, they droop into dark silence.
My hearing focuses on some words for a few moments, before I blackout again. "Somebody…. Gurney…. Call Callie… Fly…. Now!"
