Crookshanks was terrified, he could not find his Hermione anywhere. She had left the house yesterday morning along with her parents and she hadn't come back yet. At first he thought it was normal, his Hermione often went out with her parents for the day, but she had never been gone this long! He had been pacing around the house for hours on end, yowling for her to come home. His stomach rumbled and he realised he really needed some food, he hadn't been fed in ages! His Hermione had never left him like this before!
He walked frantically over to his food bowl and pawed at the empty inside, willing it to fill with food. Where was his mommy? He yowled at the top of his lungs, calling her to him. Didn't she love him anymore? Did she leave him? Or did something happen to her? Crookshanks was worried out of his mind...
Usually when his Hermione left him for the day she would leave a window open for him so he could go play outside, but she had forgotten this time. He had inspected every window and door earlier but could not find any way out of the foodless house. What was he going to do? He couldn't die, not like this!
Disheartedly, Crookshanks resigned himself to his fluffy bed on the floor. He realised the only thing he could do was wait for his mommy to come home... or wait to perish. Whichever came first. He lay there, watching a spider spin a web on the sill of a window, and gradually let himself be defeated by sleep.
