April Fools Day at the Curtis House
Darry stumbled out of bed to the sound of the yammering alarm clock
And stepped into silly string all over the floor
He heard Soda's laughter and Ponyboy joining in
Soda served pink pancakes at breakfast
Then Darry spat out "sugar" in his coffee that was really salt
Now that was something Ponyboy considered more than a little extreme
Yet Soda plus the visiting Steve and Two Bit were in gales of guffaws
Especially when Darry next put his hand into whipped cream on the doorknob
That afternoon, however, it was Darry's turn to chortle when the foursome returned
Three of home had their pranks brought to a sticky end with adhesive tape on the seat of their chairs
(a la You Can't Do That on Television, only with glue in that case)
With salt in their lemonades
While Ponyboy merely sat on shaving cream
