As soon as Jake dropped through the gate to LOTAK he was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that he was getting very light-headed. Heavy-lidded and wobbling, he fumbled around in his pocket for his phone and, fingers and hand shaking, typed out a quick message to Dirk, "GT: here hel P", and promptly fainted, head hitting the hard ground as he fell.
Next thing he knew, someone was pumping their hands hard against his chest and there was something on his face. He looked through bleary eyes and black lenses to see Dirk staring at him with a worried look on his face. "Breathe," Dirk mouthed, and Jake inhaled to receive a gulp of fresh air, noticing that his headache was clearing and he was no longer as light-headed. He realized that he was wearing a gas mask and looked at Dirk, who very obviously lacked one. Frantic, he tried to pull the mask off and give it to Dirk, but Dirk shook his head and pushed it back onto Jake's head.
Dirk pulled out his phone and typed something. Jake heard a ding and looked to the ground where his phone was laying. It had a new message blinking up at him. He retrieved his phone and read the message: "TT: You need to make a mask for yourself, then you can give mine back to me." Jake nodded to Dirk and hurriedly began alchemizing a mask, using his Skulltop as "a base. He noticed Dirk was looking increasingly paler and was wobbling a little, but Dirk kept his cool demeanor and gave no hint to being in any distress.
After finally alchemizing his own mask, he tore Dirk's mask off and put on his own. Handing Dirk's mask back, Dirk's fingers tried to grab the mask, but it slipped out of his shaking grasp and his wobbling knees collapsed out from under him. Jake quickly caught his falling friend and forced the mask onto Dirk's face. Dirk began slowly and quaveringly breathing until his hands moved up and pulled the mask straps over his head. He stood up and looked at Jake, possibly smiling, but Jake couldn't see through his mask. "Th-thanks," he stuttered out coughing, and his breathing started to return to normal.
Jake's eyes teared up and he rushed forward and embraced his best friend. Dirk's hands cautiously wrapped around Jake's back and he returned the hug. "You saved me," Jake whispered through his mask, "thank you." Stepping back, Dirk almost audibly smirked, signature black glasses glinting in the faint light, and replied, "What are bros for?"
