The 66th Hunger Games

Chapter 1: Prologue 1

Zander POV

I just stared. There they were. My glasses. And they were broken. "Barry!"

My little brother ran down the stairs, but the moment he saw me his smile turned upside down and shouted out. "I didn't do it!"

"Yeah right and I'm President Snow." I told him, rolling my eyes.

"I swear!" He responded as tears swelled up in his eyes. My little brother is 6, touches everything, is really annoying and cries a lot.

My mom came down the stairs carrying a bucket dirty laundry. "What is going in here?"

"Mom, Barry broke my glasses!" I complained to my mom.

Barry started to cry and whined. "No I didn't!"

"Zander, you have a second pair." She said.

"Oh no. Mom, please no. that pair makes me look like a freak. They're gigantic."

"They'll have to do. I don't will be able to repair them for another month."

"What? Another month! Somebody shoot me! I'll be the laugh of the entire school! Come on!"

"Speaking of school shouldn't you be leaving soon? Your first period starts at 9. Its 8:45 now."

"Mom, it's Thursday remember. School starts an hour later than usual."

"That won't matter today." My sister said sitting at the top of the stairs.

"What do you mean?" I asked her.

"It's reaping day. Remember?"

I heard a thunk and I knew my mom had dropped the bucket of laundry. "Then, Zander you better get going." She said.

I walked down the stairs to the basement and put on my sneakers. Just I was about to leave when my sister, Abigail, asked me. "When you die, can I have your room?"

"Abigail!" I yelled. She ran up the stairs laughing.

I started to charge up the stairs, when my mom told me. "Go. Zander, just go."

My mom's first boyfriend was reaped and was killed in the games by a pack of mutts. Reluctantly I walked out the door, slamming it behind me, and then I ran down the polluted streets of District 3.
