Just a drabbly little reaction piece to the finale. Obviously not mine. title from the quote: "Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. they live inside us, and sometimes, they win. " - Stephen King

Neal Caffrey is not a good man.

He's from one of those neighborhoods, the ones that became a Hollywood cliché. The kind where everyone talks about getting out and no one ever does. But he did, or he thought he did. Except he only hesitates for a breath before grabbing a gun, and not even that long before pointing it at Fowler, so maybe they were right after all. It never really lets you go.

Peter Burke is a good man. This he knows. Even shrouded in lies and mysteries and ashy remains that take away any good memory he might have had of her, that much he is certain of. In his heart, in his bones. It makes it that much harder to justify actions that pit him against the agent. Harder, but not impossible. His strength lies in the subtle manipulation of any given situation, and this is no different. Fowler deserves this death.

Peter's voice draws him up short. Runs rings around an already frantic mind, vibrates deep in his chest. not a killer, like it's that simple. Like everybody comes pre-labeled, some as murderers, some not, and no one can cross over. As though anybody is really capable of taking a life before they actually do.

There are things about him, things Peter should know, but doesn't. Things that are implied by a man with no history, a man who hates guns but can hit any target. And people don't lift Monets from museums to pay the rent or get a hot meal. But there are other things, other ways…

He is not a good man. He's not.

He lies and he steals, without blinking an eye. He lived for years above his means, above his station. And he could never be content with the dead end life his father lived, his father's father.

Peter is talking again, but all he hears are words from a lifetime ago, from another dead end situation with no easy way out. No clean escape. I gave you the chance at a better life…

And, maybe, once upon a time, he was willing to do whatever it took. Maybe he wouldn't have hesitated to pull the trigger, but this time…this time he does…

Neal Caffrey is not a good man, but a good man believes in him. A good man believes in the person he can be.

He is not a good man, but he is still a young one. And tomorrow is a new day.

That is all. Reviews, as always, are appreciated.
