Remember How to Smile
AN: I own nothing in this story. Please R&R.
Seventh Heaven was packed, the young barmaid barely able to keep up with all the orders. She thought she saw Reno and Rude but she was quickly called upon to serve more alcohol. After getting all the orders and trying to find seats for everyone, Tifa was dead tired. Luckily the rush seemed to be over although there were still quite a few people in the bar.
Tifa had just started cleaning the counter when all the lights went out. But before she could run towards the circuit breaker a single shaft of light shone down on one of the tables in the back. Reno stood under that light, his red hair gleaming. He smiled and winked at Tifa when their eyes made contact and the barmaid blushed.
"Good evening all you boozers. This is for all you barmaids out in the crowd tonight." He motioned with his arm and soon music started playing, the sound sad and plaintive. Then Reno started singing, his voice carrying over to Tifa's ears easily as the rest of the bar sat back and enjoyed the show.
"Call you up in the middle of the night like a firefly without a light. You were there like a blowtorch burning…I was a key that could use a little turning. So tired that I couldn't even sleep, so many secrets I couldn't keep. Promise myself I wouldn't weep…one more promise I couldn't keep…
It's seems no one can help me now I'm in too deep there's no way out. This time I have really led myself astray… Runaway train never going back. Wrong way on a one way track. Seems like I should be getting somewhere, somehow I'm neither here nor there.
Can you help me remember how to smile? Make it somehow all seem worthwhile? How on earth did I get so jaded? Life's mysteries seem so faded. I can go where no one else can go, I know what no one else knows, here I am just drowning in the rain with a ticket for a runaway train and everything seems cut and dry day and night, earth and sky, somehow I just don't believe it…
Runaway train never going back, wrong way on a one way track. Seems like I should be getting somewhere, somehow I'm neither here nor there…
Bought a ticket for a runaway train, like the madman laughing at the rain a little out of touch; little insane. It's just easier than dealing with the pain…
Runaway train never going back, wrong way on a one way track. Seems like I should be getting somewhere, somehow I'm neither here nor there…
Runaway train never coming back, Runaway train tearing up the track, runaway train burning in my fate runaway but it always seems the same…"
Once the song was over the lights came on again and the crowd cheered. Reno bowed a little and walked towards Tifa. His eyes gleamed when they gazed into hers and he smiled.
"How did I do?" Tifa's response was to kiss him deep on the lips. Breaking apart, she hugged onto him tightly.
"You did alright." She whispered in his ear. His response was to tickle her and her laughter signaled to Rude, who had helped his best friend with the more technical aspects of his little gift to Tifa, that the mission had been accomplished.
