I don't own Loveless… worse, I don't own Soubi.

I just discovered Loveless - and while I find it rather scary in it's premise. The fact that it is an unashamed shotacon... yeah... but the art, music, animation and well... SOUBI... sucked me in.

So here's my first Soubi offering. More to come in the future...

Ritsuka's point of view...

In One Breath

In one breath, he said it.

Love.

Death.

How can that be?

Even now, I remember it – as I watch his back – his straight shoulders under his blue-white coat. He who stands before me.

I don't understand – and I know he feels it. Here we are – facing off another pair – what are their names?

Breathless.

Essoufle.

And I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do – what I am here for. All I know is that somewhere the truth is waiting to be found for me – that our opponents might have some knowledge – some answer to the question.

To the question that haunts my life.

Why?

Why, Seimei, did you have to die?

And other things come to mind, then.

Other questions.

Why?

Why, Seimei, did you send me Soubi?

I inch toward the pervert's side and glance sideways and up at him. His delicate face – his sensitive mouth and his blue eyes are hard – are serious – are ready for the fight.

It makes me wonder.

It makes me think.

Perhaps – perhaps –

Love. Death.

Perhaps both of those things can walk hand in hand.

Maybe they exist – both side by side – in the slight body of my new Fighter.

Is that what he means – the essence of Fighter and Sacrifice?

Is that what he intends when his slim fingers reach out to caress my face?

Love and death.

Perhaps that is the truth behind the blue butterfly.

Look at this gentle thing – who defeats even the strong – who says in one breath, "DEFEAT." And his gentle voice rings with power.

What bound us painfully – what restricted – what made us gasp for air – what was breathless – is broken.

And the delicate butterfly is victorious.

"I love you, Ritsuka," he says softly.

As usual.

And I'm divided.

What does he mean by love?

What can that love mean when it is an order?

What is real? What is not?

"I love you Ritsuke – I will fight for you."

To fight. To love.

To kill. To live.

What a paradigm.

And even now, after the end of all things, it is a riddle I cannot answer.

To offer love and death –

In one breath.
