Elena stepped through the door of the boarding house, a confused expression on her face.

"Hello?" Elena called out but she received no answer. She had been knocking on the door for the past five minutes, waiting for someone to show up. It was late and as much as she felt at home here, the dark made her feel slightly spooked. Stefan had text her not fifteen minutes ago, asking her to come over. He told her he would be here, so why wasn't he?

"Hello?" She had never known him to do this. He was always on time, early even. This was unusual for Stefan.

"Stefan?" She shouted, her voice echoing through the large house. Elena was suddenly very glad she had her vervain necklace around her neck. The house was pitch black and she couldn't see a thing. She looked around, trying to allow her eyes to get used to the dark. Stepping inside the house fully, she closed the door behind her and began to fumble around for a light switch. She sighed when she realised she wasn't getting anywhere. This was ridiculous. Why had he asked her to come here if he wasn't home?

"Stefan?" She called out again. Nothing. The house was completely silent. She couldn't see two feet in front of her. She jumped when she heard a floorboard creak behind her. Spinning around, Elena stayed frozen, squinting as she tried to see where the noise had come from.

"Stefan? Is that you?" Silence followed and she shook her head. The darkness was clearly making her imagine things. She stumbled on, not sure where she was heading. She didn't even know what directions she was heading in. She let out a groan as she bumped into something she believed to be a chair. She rubbed her now sore hip which had collided with the piece of furniture. Enough was enough. If Stefan was here, she didn't know what kind of game he was playing. This was his last chance or she was going home.

"Stefan? Turn on the lights, I can't see you!" She snapped, hoping if he was here, her tone of voice would make him do as she said. Nothing happened, she remained in darkness. With a sigh, she turned around and attempted to make her way towards the door.

"I'm going home!" She shouted, but she wasn't sure who she would be talking to. It was clear to her now that Stefan obviously wasn't here. He was going to get a good argument out of this one, that was for sure. She stumbled and bashed herself off a wall. She growled. Suddenly, a large gust of wind blew through the room, making her shiver. Her hair blew to the side and she crossed her arms over her chest, trying to shield herself from the chill of the draft. She stood perfectly still. Something inside her was telling her she wasn't alone any more. Glancing around, she wasn't sure what she was expecting to see. It was still pitch black. She let out a scream as a strong force pushed her backwards. She felt her back thump against a wall and she let out another scream. This was it, she was going to die. She should have known the minute she stepped inside. If Stefan was home, the lights would have been on. Now, it was clear one of the tomb vampires had come past for a little late night snack.. her!

Elena screwed her eyes shut, waiting for the bite to her neck, but it never came. She relaxed when she felt two hands entwining their way into her brunette hair. She could feel his breath on her cheeks and that was when she realised who this was.

Stefan.

She could feel the base of his ring scratching against her cheek slightly. She smiled as he swooped down and seized her lips with his. Elena took a deep breath and melted into his hold. He bumped his nose with hers and swept his tongue across her bottom lip, asking for permission. She opened her mouth a little more, allowing him entrance and his tongue gently caressed hers. He deepened the kiss and she felt herself swoon, her knees becoming weak. He seemed to noticed that and one of his hands dropped to her waist, pulling her close and holding her steady. She wrapped her arms around his broad, muscled shoulders and smiled into his lips. This was the best kiss he had ever given her by far. She wasn't sure what had gotten in to him, but she liked it. It was soft and meaningful, but at the same time completely passionate and lustful. It was perfect.

Elena was shocked when he let go of her and placed his hands above her head. He had softened the kiss now and was almost just toying with her, teasing her. He pulled away from her, leaving his lips just hovering over hers. She tried to kiss him again, but he kept himself just out of reach. It was very unfair.

"Don't stop.." She breathed. "You can't kiss me like that and stop."

"She jumped when the lights suddenly switched on and her eyes stung at the sudden surge of light. That was when she realised something definitely wasn't right. Instead of staring into a pair of hazel eyes, she found her staring into a set of ice blue ones. Her mouth dropped open in shock, her eyes widening as she watched the corner of his mouth curl up into a smirk. A smirk that only he could pull off. She continued to stare at him in silence, completely in shock as he took a step away from her.

"Damon?" stuttered Elena.

"Nice lips, Elena," smirked Damon, winking at her. For the first time in a while, Elena Gilbert blushed a bright shade of pink.

"What are you doing?" She asked, still in shock.

"Nothing," shrugged Damon, a smirk set firmly on his face. She blushed deeper.

"Damon, why-"

"Goodnight, Elena." He said simply and she sighed. Was he really going to leave this like that. He wandered off towards the staircase and didn't look back once. She stared after him, completely flabbergasted. Had he really just set all of that up? Had he sent the message from Stefan's phone? Obviously Stefan wasn't here. He had turned off the lights so that she wouldn't realise until the last minute. Elena stood still for a second after he had disappeared up the staircase and out of sight. She brought her fingertips up to lips and smiled. That was the best kiss she had ever had. Not that she would ever admit that to him, or Stefan for that matter. No, that would be her little secret.

Elena had a feeling that kiss wouldn't stay secret for long if Damon had his way. Elena sighed softly, feeling quite content. She was just glad she could see properly now and see where she was walking. She turned around and heading for the door, her eyesight finally adjusted to the harsh lights inside the boarding house. From now on, she would make sure there were lights on inside this house before she stepped inside. After all, she couldn't risk Damon doing that again, no matter how much she wanted him too.

This is has been rewritten to make it slightly longer.
Set in season 1ish, i think? I'm pretty sure that was what I was thinking when I wrote it all those years ago.
