Kagome was finally back, she felt the warm sun shining on her fair skin, and the soft summer breeze blow her hair delicately. But the beautiful weather was not what made her so happy at that moment, it was Him.
He looked down at her with his gorgeous amber eyes lovingly as he held her to him in a warm embrace. It had been three years since she looked into his eyes and felt his warmth, and she thought she would have never been able to experience this feeling again, but here they were.
"What took you so long Kagome?" he asked tenderly as he tucked some stray hairs behind her ear.
"I'm sorry I kept you waiting InuYasha, I've missed you so much" Kagome replied feeling tears start to well up in her eyes.
"Please don't cry Kagome" InuYasha said as he pulled her closer to him. He then looked at her again and delicately placed his soft lips against hers in a tender kiss.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha and Kagome broke apart quickly to see the tiny fox demon jump into their arms.
"Shippo! I've missed you so much! Look how big you've gotten!" Kagome said as she held Shippo in a motherly embrace.
"Kagome it's you!" Sango shouted as her and Miroku ran to meet her.
"Sango, Miroku! I'm so happy to see you again!" Kagome then ran to her old best friend and embraced her. She then went to hug Miroku only to have him move his hand to her butt and start caressing it, which of course led to his wife slapping him on the back of his head.
They then all laughed together sharing a similar feeling that it was just like old times.
"Kagome, we must have a celebration in the village that you have finally returned!" Miroku said as he wrapped his arm around Sango. Then the group of friends, finally reunited as one, walked back to the village to spend hours laughing, catching up, and drinking plenty of sake until they were all exhausted, and Miroku and Sango had to put their three children to sleep.
"Goodnight Kagome! I'll see you in the morning" Sango said as she embraced Kagome one last time before guiding a very drunk monk to their cozy hut in the village. Shippo had already passed out hours ago on a small patch of grass and Kaede picked him up to bring him back to her hut with her.
"It's very nice to see you again Kagome" she said with a warm smile.
"It's very nice to see you again too Kaede" Kagome said happily as Inuyasha pulled her closer to him. The entire night, although they were all partying and having a good time, Kagome noticed Inuyasha stayed right by her side, and she knew this was because he was afraid to lose her again.
Once Kaede made it back inside her hut safely Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's hand.
"I need to show you something" he said with a little mischief in his eyes.
"What are you up to?" Kagome said as she looked at him suspiciously.
"Would you just trust me and get on" He told her slightly irritated as he bent down to let her climb on his back.
"Fine" Kagome said in a huff as she climbed on and they immediately took off to the woods. After only a few minutes they ended up at a cute little hut alongside a small creek.
"It's so cute! Who lives here?" Kagome questioned as she looked at the adorable home.
"We do." Inuyasha said with a loving smile on his face as he looked at Kagome's happy expression.
"What?! It's ours?! How could you afford it?" She asked surprised.
"I built it, Shippo helped with alot of it. Now that Naraku is dead, and when you weren't here, it left me with a lot of spare time on my hands. I wanted to be ready for when you came back."
Kagome thought about what he said and she realized that he had had complete faith that Kagome was going to return someday and he worked so hard to ensure she would have a home here for when she did return. She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice Inuyasha had bent down on one knee beside her. She looked down and gasped to see that he pulled out a small wooden hand-made box with a mokume-gane ring inside. The ring was stunning, it was silver with gold designs on it and had three small diamonds laid into the medal.
"This was the ring that my father married my mother with, and the one I want to marry you with. Kagome, we have been through so much together, and no matter what, you always believed in me and stood by my side. Even when I pushed you away, hurt you, and completely did not deserve you, you never gave up on me and stood with me. Over the time that I've known you I have fell even deeper in love with you and now I have decided something that I am certain of, I love you Kagome and only you, and I want to spend the rest of my life by your side, whether its raising many children or fighting off demons. No matter what happens, I know I will be happy as long as you're with me. So, Kagome, Will you do the absolute honor in becoming my wife and mate for the rest of our lives and forever?" By now, Kagome already had tears streaming down her eyes.
"Oh InuYasha! Of course! A thousand times yes, nothing would make me happier in the whole world than to become you wife." He then jumped off his knee and swept Kagome up in a twirling kiss as he also managed to slip the ring onto her finger, and it fit perfectly.
