The Dark Creature

A response to ReillyJade's challenge, Ready...Set...Write!

There was a sound of cantering hooves in the Forbidden Forest. With a quiver of arrows slung over his shoulder, Firenze pulled back his wooden bow and released a silver-white arrow into the dense foliage. A loud hiss filled the air upon the arrow's impact. Firenze's canter slowed to a trot as he cautiously came closer to his prey. The centaur pushed aside some vines to see a black cloaked figure writhing on the forest floor.

Firenze's arrow was protruding from the creature's chest and it shone in the moonlight in contrast to the dark creature. The centaur peered down at the creature. The creature looked humanoid but Firenze knew that it didn't have the ethics and morals of a person. It had done many atrocities in its lifetime including the genocide of hundreds of muggles and tearing apart many innocent families.

Firenze wrinkled his nose in disgust of the creature's foul evil aura and he loomed over the creature which had fallen over in its pain. The creature backed away, and pressed itself against a tree trunk, fearing for its life. Firenze's expression darked and his eyes seemed to glow.

"You have committed many crimes not only to your own kin but to others as well. You killed countless innocents and have tonight, have added a unicorn to that growing list. I hereby name to Destroyer, Betrayer and Murderer."

Despite the creature's situation, it laughed mockingly sounding like scrapping metal.

"You really think I fear you, horse-man?" It hissed. "You really think that I care for petty titles?"

"Enough!" Firenze ordered, stamping a hoof onto the ground. He pulled out a curved white dagger and aimed it at where the creature's heart should be.

"You cannot touch me for I am IMMORTAL!" With that last comment, the creature leapt up into the air and vaporised into a black smoke. At the same time, Firenze had lunged forward and managed to stab the creature with his dagger.

Within a millisecond, the centaur had pulled out his bow and shot three arrows at the creatures head but he was a shade too slow and the arrows only penetrated mist.

The creature's laughter echoed in the air and filled the Forest with a dark and evil sensation. Firenze turned on his hoof and cantered away from the scene. The centaur knew where the creature's next destination would be and he needed to warn the person who would help the most.

The creature's last words had shaken Firenze even if he wasn't going to admit it. I am immortal… immortal… immortal… Pushing those words to the back of his mind, the centaur shot an arrow into one of the windows of Hogwarts and he heard a faint shatter.

Almost instantly, the old Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, Apparated in front of Firenze, his face full of alarm and concern.

"What's the matter, dear friend?"

"Albus, I fear that another unicorn has been attacked and that its attacker will be after your foals next. Keep them safe and warn them of danger!"

Firenze's expression hardened on that last note and the wizard could see that the centaur was absolutely serious about this.

"That will be done."

Dumbledore bowed his head in respect and Firenze lowered his front legs in return before watching the wizard disappear with a loud crack.

"Keep them safe, my friend, while I hunt down this dark creature who calls itself, 'Lord Voldemort'."
