Hi.

None of the Harry Potter characters belong to me, they are all the work of the marvelous J. .

Anyways, not sure what else to say other than enjoy and please review. :)

What the hell had they been thinking of?

Backed up against the sharp stone wall, wand clutched in her hand, the darkened room lighting up with various curses and spells, Hermione Granger cursed silently under her breath. They hadn't been thinking, Harry had. Severus Snape had never been more right; Harry let his emotions rule him, and now they were going to die because of it.

Meeting the glare of Antonin Dolohov with an equally heated one of her own, Hermione threw up a shield charm as the furious Death Eater threw another non-verbal spell at her that came with a flash of blue light. The spell hit the shield with a clap of thunder before being thrown back at Dolohov who merely swatted it off to the side as if it were nothing more than an annoying fly. But as Dolohov advanced towards her; Hermione knew one more hit like that she would be done for. She had to go on the offensive.

Raising her wand she aimed it at Dolohov's head but just as she was about to fire a stunning spell at him, a scene over his shoulder caught her eye.

Harry and Sirius where duelling Lucius Malfoy and another Death Eater side-by-side, they were besting the two Death Eaters, but as Hermione watched Bellatrix aparated onto a rising stone column opposite the Death Veil and fired a spell at Sirius with a wicked grin on her face. Hermione's eyes widened, that would send Sirius careening into the Death Veil – there's no way he would come through that alive.

"Stupefy!" She screamed fearfully, moving her wand a few inches away from Dolohov's direction and aiming it at Sirius.

Harry cannot lose someone else!

For a second the world seemed to freeze.

Tonks was supporting Ginny, who seemed to have injured her ankle in some way, but both were still casting hexes and curses at anyone who dared to cross their path. Neville and Luna were duelling with Avery Jr., who looked like he was struggling quite a bit to hold his own against the two students. Kingsley was battling against Mulciber while Moody had just gained advantage over one of the Lestrange brothers and was just about to take him down. Neither Ron nor Lupin were in the room and Hermione could only hope that neither of them were dead.

But the second passed and time seemed to catch up to itself.

The stunning spell hit Sirius mere moments after Bellatrix's hit him and before he could fall back into the Veil the force of Hermione's spell sent him flying away from it, his body like a ragdoll's as he flew through the air. All the people in the centre of the room spun towards her, wondering who had sent the stunner that had saved Sirius' life, but she looked away from them to meet the gaze of Dolohov again.

The dread and the fear that had pooled in her stomach doubled in intensity as she saw the sick, triumphant smile on his face and before Hermione could even hope to react a spell hit her shield. Even with her partial shield Hermione took the brunt of the spell which forced her back into the stone wall, knocking her head against it.

Meeting Harry's bright green eyes across the room, Hermione tried to smile though she was sure it was more of a grimace, before the pain blossomed. It felt like she had been ripped apart from the inside out. Hermione didn't even try to resist screaming. Slumping to the floor the screams finished as quickly as they started.

For Harry, Hermione thought before the comforting blackness engulfed her.
