A/N: I do not own Stargate Atlantis and, unfortunately , never will. Enjoy, and please review.
John Sheppard looked down at the sleeping baby in his arms and smiled. John and Teyla had been married for three years when they decided that they wanted to start a family.
John had proposed to her when they were off-world and they had a traditional Earth wedding. Since neither John nor Teyla had any close family relatives, they had the ceremony in the gate room.
Teyla had chosen Laura Beckett (previously Cadman) and her good friend Dr Kate Costello as her bridesmaids and Elizabeth McKay as her maid of honour.
John had chosen Rodney McKay as his best man and Evan Lorne, Carson Beckett and Ronon Dex as his groomsmen.
Everyone in Atlantis (bar Kavanagh, who had a little 'accident' with a wraith stunner and was left unconscious in the infirmary) had attended. The Athosians had been ferried by puddle jumper from the main land to watch their leader get hitched and SG-1 plus Generals O'Neill and Landry had also been in attendance.
Mr and Mrs Sheppard had chosen to honeymoon on Earth. It was the first time Teyla had been their for real and John was surprised at how much she remembered.
He took her shopping, he took her to the beach, he took her to a football game and he introduced her to (showed her off to) some of his old friends.
Three years later, Teyla announced that she was expecting. It was the first child to be born on Atlantis for ten thousand years. A month later Elizabeth and Rodney McKay announced that they too were expecting a child and two weeks later, Laura Beckett also announced that she and Carson were going to become parents.
John grinned as he remembered that he almost fainted when Teyla told him (of course he didn't, because that would be unmanly).
The baby was a week old and her parents had yet to name their beautiful baby girl. She had her mother's skin tone and chocolate brown eyes and her father's messy hair. Dr Beckett had delivered her and he knew that she was going to look just like her mother.
John and Teyla had talked about names before she was born, but none of them seem appropriate for her. Marie was too posh, Claire was too girlie and they doubted whether Rodney would be very happy if they decided to name her Meredith.
"I just spoke to Carson," John jumped slightly as he heard Teyla's voice behind him.
He turned around to face her. "I thought you were in bed. What did he say?" he asked.
"That we really need to chose a name," she smiled. "On Athos it is a popular tradition to name a baby after the father's parents."
John laughed and said, "Well, my dad's name was Phil, but I don't think that would suit her."
"What was your mother's name?"
He looked like he was trying to remember. "Zoey."
"I like it," Teyla smiled at her husband and daughter.
John liked it too. His mother had died when he was eight, so he didn't really remember her. Naming his child after her was a good way to do so.
"What about a middle name?" he asked.
"Athosians do not often give their children middle names," she explained.
John wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "What was your mother's name?" he asked.
"Elyon."
He said a few times in his head. "Zoey Elyon Sheppard?" he asked.
Teyla said it a few times in her head as well before smiling and saying, "It's perfect."
