Hey, it's me! I'm writing for the first time on this site, and I thought I'd write for a game I've been playing to death recently: X-com Enemy Unknown! Anyway, this is a one-shot based off the achievement "Ain't no cavalry" for bringing a single unit through every combat you have across an entire campaign.

The heavy of the group, ducking behind an alien computer in the downed UFO as gunfire flew past in both directions, towards the Grays and towards his team, he shouted to the one colonel in the group, a young sniper girl who currently had her back firmly planted against an Alloy S.H.I.V. For cover as a Muton was suppressing her to prevent the rain of death she had been able to output beforehand "HEY! Is it time to call in the cavalry? We're getting destroyed out here!"

The sniper quickly whipped around in time to stun a berserker rushing up behind her, and turned back around to look at the Heavy through a hole through one of the team members who had been mutilated by crossfire "Are you kidding? Soldier, we ARE the Cavalry. There's no one coming to save us, because were the ones that save them."

The heavy responded by shooting a sectoid commander that had been about to mind control her "So you're saying that we're the last of the soldiers?"

"Yes, Soldier, we are. The only ones left besides us are too injured to fight. That or in pieces…"

The Muton had since become bored of suppressing fire and had opted for running towards her to get a better shot, only to be interrupted by the one member of their team who wasn't either dead or pinned down, and assault soldier with a crazed grin "NO ONE TOUCHES THE COLONEL! AHAHAH!"

Both soldiers stared "uh… what?"

"He was going to try to hurt you. I figured, since were pretty much screwed if you die, I should try to keep you alive, princess…"

"You know I hate that nickname, and I nearly shot the commander when they assigned me it."

The last alien to appear, an outsider with a plasma rifle, ran out, only to be gunned down by the S.H.I.V.'s over watch.

"Don't you realize that's why we still call you by it?"

"That's it commander, that's all of them. Bring the team home."

The commander, who up until this point had been sitting back in the skyranger, watching the battle from varying perspectives to see what was going on and be all tactical, simply called the team back and had them retrieve anything they could from the ship.

The heavy looked over at the Sniper "So we're the cavalry? What happens when we need saving?"

The sniper looked back, a cold look on her face "Then we better be able to save ourselves, or the war may be lost…"
