Regulus smiled as Marlene leaned closer to him in an attempt to get warm. He couldn't believe his luck, he had never had any fortune with the ladies and here he had the most beautiful woman in the world by his side.
"Regulus when are we going to discuss the idea of marriage?" Marlene turned in his arms, looking into his eyes. "We've both been avoiding the issue for months now. Please tell me why you are so against it. Against us," her voice faded as Regulus turned his face away, not wanting to have this argument yet again.
"Look Mar, with everything going on in the world today I'm just not comfortable starting a family. With You-know-who running around we could be killed at any time!" He unconsciously rubbed his left arm.
"If it comes down to it I'll die with you, Regulus, I promise you that." Marlene forced Regulus to look at her. "Please Reg. I love you," tears streamed down her face as she saw the answer in Regulus' eyes.
"I'm sorry Marlene, but I can't do this anymore." He walked away leaving Marlene crying behind him. It killed him to do it, but if he was going down he was determined not to take her with him.
