"He's not here"

"No"

"You would have thought, having traveled with her for years he would have at least come to say goodbye. Not going to poor Harry's funeral was bad enough, but not coming to Sarah Jane's is nasty."

"you know he hates goodbyes, and final ones even more so."

"True, brig."

"If she was here she'd already have found some way of telling him off for being late"

Both men shared a sad smile at that.

"Jo will be here soon brig"

"yes, I expect so"

With one last look at the grave the Brigadier turned and, with his swagger stick under one arm, marched off to meet Jo, leaving Sargent Benton to follow along behind as best he could.

In the grey misty morning the day after, a figure dressed in tweed stood by the edge of the grave. He had been there nearly an hour reflecting on the many adventures they had shared, remembering one of his best friends, who had once stood with him though everything and anything life had thrown at them. A single tear dripped from his face and splashed onto the ground. He blinked and bent to drape a long multi-coloured scarf over the headstone and place a jar of flowers, most definitely not from Earth and the colour and patterns of a starry night sky.

"goodbye Sarah Jane Smith. I'll miss you." he wispered. He turned to the grave next to hers and told it; "thanks Harry for looking after her." As he left he shook his head, as if trying to get rid of a thought.

He slouched into the police box standing to one side and typed in the coordinates of the planet he had left the Ponds on for their honeymoon? Knowing his companions, they would have found trouble somehow.

After a moments thought he changed the time to take him nearly a week after he had promised to pick them up. "After all sexy, I can't get too predictable!" he told the console, with a smile like one his first incarnation had used when he broke the Mercury Fluid Link. With a hash sound the TARDIS dematerialized and the Doctor rushed around, trying not to blow anything up.
