MelloXMatt FanfictionIn These Halls

My soft bare feet not making a sound on the hard wood floorboards, as I felt my way down the corridor in the pitch black of night. My fingertips running across door after door, 3, 4, 5, I counted under my breath, then, door 6, the bathroom. I pushed on the great heavy door, the light from inside spilled across the floor, my eyes dazed. Steadily I edged forwards letting the door shut silently behind. As my eyes accustomed to the light I saw a dark silhouette hunched over a sink. A tousled mop of red hair topped the figure.

"Matt?" My voice echoed off the white walls.

I stepped closer, letting a bar of chocolate slip from between my fingers onto the counter with a clunk.

"Matt, why are you here?" I paused, "What's up?"

"Mello," his voice was raw and hoarse, "how, how do you tell someone you love them?"

"You're not making any sense." I breathed.

"So many sleepless nights, asking yourself the same questions." He turned his head up to the side facing me. There were sunken dark purple circles under his eyes surrounded by the palest, gauntest white skin.

"What happened to you?" My voice hardly above a whisper.

Matt turned back and stared hard at the mirror. A shiver ran down my spine and I stepped slowly forwards, placing my hand on his shoulder. I could feel the bone under his shirt, cold and hard. "You must be freezing."

"What does it matter?" His tone nonchalant. "Not now anyway."

"Matt," I sighed, "really, what's wrong?"

"Mel," he stood up straight. It was then I realised how thin he was, thinner than me. "Have you ever loved someone?" His gaze impressed upon me.

"Um," I mumbled, this was never my best subject of conversation.

He let out a long sigh, "yeah, as I thought."

"Wait, Matt. If you tell me, I could help you. Please?"

He shook his head.

"Matt…" this time it was me who sighed. "Who is it you love?"

His green eyes hazed and swirled mysteriously. He ran his fingers steadily through his hair. "Mel," he turned to face me, "I love," He paused, "I love you."

Then everything was silent, silent as night. I could hear the blood pumping vigorously though the veins in my ears. I could see the room, I could see Matt, the mirrors, the sinks, all so clearly, but none of it sank in. His words rang in my head.

I love you

I love you!

I LOVE YOU!

My head screamed the words at me.

Then, as if without a thought, I pulled his body into mine and our lips locked together. I felt warm wet tears running down his cheeks onto mine, and soon there were tears in my own eyes. As we pulled apart a silver glint caught in the corner of my eye.

"Matt, what were you going to do with that knife?" My voice cracked to a rather hysterical note as the words left my mouth.

"I don't know." His voice was muffled in the crook of my neck. "It doesn't matter now…" His voice trailed off.

I hugged him tight into me, "I love you too Matt." I gently kissed his forehead and then he lifted his head and kissed my lips. My eyes wandered to the chocolate bar, still on the unit. I wrapped my fingers round it and lifted it to our eye level. "Shall we?"

A slight smile tugged at his lips and he cracked a piece off the top end of the bar, placing it between them. I just couldn't resist the temptation.
