When I opened my eyes, I expected to see nothing. Is that not what they always said death was like? Nothingness? An empty void filled with only the cold? Well that's not what I saw when I opened my eyes. For a moment I was tempted to call up and say- "Uh...Wheres the never-ending blackness?" but then thought better of it.
I was standing in a field of wild flowers. The breeze was warm and the sun sprinkled the ground, all around were trees, tall thousand year old redwoods, I mean serious giants. The sky was a serene baby blue not the cloudy black and gray that should be rolling across the sky like waves of a coming storm.
A sudden gust of wind rippled my soft white dress around my knees, and blew my long red-brown hair in front of my face. With it came the sound of laughter, each distinct laugh echoed on the wind. The sound brought memories boiling to the surface of my mind. Bombs exploding, leaving us all covered in soot and with smiling faces. Gases coming from the Gasman himself, making us all turn tail and RUN. Big blue bambi eyes, getting everything that she wanted. Hundreds of unwanted-unneeded mall trips and tons of new clothes because of it. A black laptop open late at night, and the tapping of the keys lulling us all to sleep.
The thought of the people behind me…my family, waiting in the field behind me. All of them playing and knowing that they would never be harmed again. It was almost too good to be true. So as another wind blew past me I turned and saw Angel and Nudge making daisy chains, Iggy touching his eyes in amazement, he could see. No longer would the horrific things they had done hamper us. Total was chasing a couple of butterflies that fluttered peacefully around the field. Gazzy was making things with sticks and rocks that he picked up off the ground, letting Iggy get used to having his sight before talking of bombs. Fang laid in the middle of the space, his eyes closed and a slight smile on his face. His long back hair ruffled by the winds gentle loving fingers. It was a sight I would never forget.
Angel looked up from a yellow daisy and smiled as she saw me, "Max!" she said smiling brightly. She rose from the swaying grass and ran to me, her wings spread behind her. Her bright white dress fluttered around her ankles, and her blonde curls were blew behind her as she came to me. Nudge followed Angel and they both wrapped there arms around me.
Hearing the noise Gazzy looked up and started running to me too. Iggy following Gazzy, I was soon wrapped in bird kid arms. And when they all released me, I looked to Fang standing still in the middle of the field.
Without a second thought I ran to him tripping lightly over the flowers and throwing myself in his arms. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled my face up to look at him. Then he smiled and leaned down to capture my lips with his. When we finally pulled apart, I could hear the Iggy wolf whistling, Gazzy gagging, and Angel and Nudge sighing dramatically. But at the moment I could care less.
I was perfectly content in my forever.
