"Let's stay together, Ganta."
Shiro's eyes, wide and childlike, looked at him.
He didn't meet those eyes, gaze drawn instead to Minatsuki. She was lying on her side, eyes closed and cobweb-spun hair across her cheek.
Just like a sleeping child.
An angel.
Her brother was slightly behind her, arm wrapped around Minatsuki protectively. As in life, so in death.
"You killed them all. You killed them!"
Senji, the Crow, was splattered across the floor. His crazed smile lasting past death.
Ganta looked. Wanted to touch, because he seemed so alive.
"They can't stop us from being together anymore."
Déjà vu.
In a classroom, students had been flung all around. A girl's head was no longer on her shoulders, attached to her neck. A monstrosity.
A monster did that.
Déjà vu.
A monster did this.
"You were the Red- no. No!"
The Chief's sword had been driven into her chest.
A child's playfulness?
"I don't want Ganta to be with them."
A pout. Shiro is a child, just a bit stronger than normal.
Blood coats the walls, too.
It's just red.
"Ganta's so stupid! Aren't we friends?"
She doesn't understand why he's so unhappy.
She did it for them, so they'd be together.
Doesn't Ganta like her?
"Wait, Shiro! Just don't leave me, okay?"
He's the woodpecker.
But his beak isn't poisonous.
He just wants a friend now. Someone to stay with him.
"You won't ever leave me, right? Promise!"
Shiro holds out her pinky. Links them together.
"Shiro will always be with Ganta."
