Angels Baking Cookies
"Mom," said the 5- year- old Nina. Yesterday she had asked about the smell of the rain. Today, she had a different question forming in her mind.
"What is it?" her mother, Teresa, asked. Before, when Nina was first born, Teresa had wanted to teach her all she knew about Jesus. Lately, though, she realized that Nina was teaching her more things about God and his everlasting love then she had ever imagined.
"Do you know why the sky is cloudy today?" Nina asked. Her mother smiled. It was cloudy because it had been raining hard yesterday. It was now foggy and misty. But something told her not to tell Nina that. Instead she asked, "Why?" Nina looked at the sky intently, before answering. She answered in a whisper.
"I'm telling you a secret, ok?" Nina whispered into her mother's ear. Teresa smiled. "Tell me," she said, waiting patiently. "The angels told me they are baking cookies. The dark clouds are just smoke from the oven. And when the sun comes out, that means the cookies are finished!" Nina said, suddenly jumping around the dining room.
Her brother finished eating breakfast and looked outside the window. "Mom!" he practically shouted. "The sun's up! I can play baseball with my friends today!" Nina smiled. "The angels have finished baking cookies!" she said, excitedly.
Secretly, her mother smiled.
