"Cat stop!" Robin yells as Catgirl sets up a barrier around the League and the team, stopping the poisonous gas that surrounded them from harming them. But Robin knows Catgirl's barrier has one downfall, if a gas touches it she would basically breathe it in.
At that moment the Green Lanterns create barriers around the Martians and Atlanteans to stop the effects of Catgirl's fire magic. Batman charges her. In defense Catgirl sets up a second barrier cutting herself off from the rest of the team and from the Justice League. As she starts to cough, Robin pounds on the barrier.
Flash tries to phase through the barrier by increasing the speed of his molecules to allow him to pass through the molecules of the barrier. He fails. Superman punches the barrier, doing nothing. Finally, Wonder Woman hits it with every bit of strength inside her, but it does nothing.
Robin punches and punches the barrier trying to stop Catgirl, but he can't.
Meanwhile, as the last of the poisonous gas hits the barrier Catgirl collapses and the barriers vanish. Kid Flash and Flash run at full speed over. Flash checks her pulse and his face becomes the definition of sadness. "She's dead".
"I'm not dead yet" Catgirl says as she fights to get up.
"Stop! It's only going to make it worse" Robin says as he rushes to her side.
"Flash is it possible?..."
"No, even he isn't fast enough. I'm sorry" Superboy says cutting Robin off. I checked, the poison is killing her."
"I guess I don't have nine lives" Catgirl says aloud as Robin becomes teary eyed.
Robin then hears a voice in his head. It is Catgirl using telepathy "Dick, stop crying please. I promised I would never leave you and I won't. Keep my pendant and I'll always be near you...brother". These words stun him. They were siblings, but she never called him brother. She never called him Dick on missions either. Robin is in a daze. He doesn't notice those grieving around him or even their attempts to comfort him. All Robin can do is stand there, replaying Catgirl's last words over and over in his mind on that cold fall night.
