Gale was walked down the path towards the forest. He was stressed and the anxiety was clinging in the air. Why couldn't he just accept the present of security, a gift from Katniss. Katniss had the money, being a Hunger Games victor. She could give him everything he wanted for his family and more. He went in the forest, barely avoiding the Peacekeepers. He listened to the sound of the forest, the mockingjays, now duped a sign of rebellion. He was shooting arrows at some animals, when he spotted a peace of paper on the ground. Thinking it was a note that he could use in his plan for rebellion against the Capital, he picked it up. It was not a note for his good, but rather, for his shame. It read,
"Meet me in the moonlight, my love,
meet me when you see me in sight.
I will be waiting here in despiration,
I've got too many to fight
It's not the Peacekeepers that trouble me
It's the love that so many are giving
I cannot love them all, but I chose you
Isn't that why I wear your ring?
-Katniss Everdeen
Gale's eyes had grown bigger by the last line. It was not him she was in love with, but Peeta. Katniss had led him on this whole time. He stood there in agony. "Katniss," he muttered, "how could you betray me? How could you forget all of our plans? Why do you play me like one of the instruments you are trying to learn for the Capitol?" Even Gale, the strongest man in the whole district, was in tears. He sat there for hours and hours in the cold. He could not even think straight. Then, he saw something dark appear on the ground, a shadow. He gasped silently, and turned around with an arrow ready to fire. It was Katniss. "I'm almost tempted to shoot you, Katniss Everdeen." Katniss was surprised. "And, I must ask, why?" Gale gave her a stare that had a mixture of ice and smoke within it. "You said you loved me, but this note says you love Peeta. How could you, Katniss? You really know how to break a heart." Katniss looked into Gale's eyes and kissed him like she had never kissed him before. "Gale, are you jealous?" "No, I was just wondering if you were a liar. " "Well, then, you should be glad to know that I was practicing my writing for the Capitol. That note is all a lie. I must have dropped it when I was by the lake." Gale blushed and his face was a very deep shade of red. "Oh, then, I apologize." Katniss grabbed his rough hand. "Shall we walk into the sunset?" "I'd love to, Catnip." He pulled her closer and kissed her. It was a love unlike any other.
