Hello everyone. This is a quick one shot written for National "Day of Silence" which helps spread awareness about bullying based on sexual orientation and the issues of being gay/ lesbian/ bi/ transgender that are often silenced in our community. The "Day of Silence" is when people are silent the entire day to raise awareness and offer support on theses issues. You do not have to be gay, lesbian, bi, or transgender to participate.
Today was the "Day of Silence" and I was a vocal supporter since I had a debate today. However, many of my friends participated and I got to run the information booth because I was talking. At a school of about two thousand, our anti bullying chain managed to stretch over thirty feet. I personally know about twenty people who were being silent. I know even more vocal supporters. Many of you probably had students at your school participating.
This one short is actually dedicated to Connor, a good friend of mine. We all love you very much and will always be here for you, no matter what.
It was socially unacceptable. In both worlds. It just wasn't allowed, end of story.
Besides, it was probably his fault. He wasn't supposed to be like this. No one else was, so why was he?
It didn't make since. He was probably the smartest wizard in the world and he was like… this.
It made no sense. He wasn't supposed to feel these things. To want these things. It was unacceptable.
His mother… what would she do?
It would kill her. He knew it would.
First Arina being attacked and ill.
Then dad attacking those muggles and going to prison.
And Aberforth was just so… well, Aberforth.
He couldn't tell his mother. Not ever, no matter what. For her sake more than his.
But… it was also for his, in more ways than one. He would be…
Well, he didn't really know. It just wasn't discussed.
Whatever the consequences were, though, they were sure to be terrible, that much was obvious.
He would be humiliated.
Shunned, probably, too.
"Albus, dear! Your friend Elphias is here!" called his mother from downstairs
Elphias. His best friend. He couldn't even tell him.
What if he thought that he was in love with him?
What if he thought it was like some sort of disease that could kill you?
What if he just… walked away?
Pretended that he had never known?
Pretended that he never knew his closest friend?
That might even be worse then what his mother would do if she found out.
He walked into the hall way.
He didn't see Ariana walking around.
He loved her. He really did, but he just wished that she wasn't this way.
He wished that she was the way she was. Normal.
Like the rest of them.
But not him.
He wasn't normal.
He couldn't be.
"Albus!" cried Ariana as she spotted him
"Hello, Ariana." He said in an attempt at a happy voice as she came to him and embraced him in a large and warm hug.
It was odd.
One of the smartest wizards since Merlin being cheered by his sister that wasn't exactly… "All there", if you knew what he meant.
But he loved her. And she loved him.
"Ariana" he whispered as he pulled away suddenly
She looked up, the perpetual smile painted on her face.
"I- I'm gay, I think." He said quietly
"It seemed that Ariana could since something was wrong, because she grabbed his hands and placed them over his heart.
"Love you, Albus." She said softly
And she did.
His sister might not understand much, but she understood love.
And she loved him.
Albus Dumbledore love his sister too.
Thank you for reading, and for participating in "Day of Silence" by reading this.
