Kara Thrace woke up with a painful headache. Hangover, she though.

It took her a few seconds to adjust her eyes to the daylight and to register why the frak she was laying naked on a sandy floor. Half her body was resting on a soft and warm surface, like a human body… That's when she remembered. It was Lee. Memories of the previous night hit her like a ton of bricks. She had slept with Lee Adama; she had confessed her love for him. Her head felt like it was going to explode, she needed to get out of there, she needed to think and rationalize what had happened.

Lifting herself carefully from the floor in order not to wake Lee, Kara dressed quickly and walked in New Caprica city's direction. She had cheated on Sam; Sam who had always been impeccable with her.

The streets of the city were almost empty and she could hear the sound of her feet on the floor. Kara needed to pick: Sam or Lee. Sam would be the easiest pick, a complication free relationship. Lee was a challenge: she loved him in a way that she had never felt before but her past with Zak, the regs and the fact that Lee and Kara were… Lee and Kara was bond to complicate things.

When she reached the previous night's dancing stage, she found Sam still passed out under a table. She walked in his direction and kneeled by his sleeping form. Sam or Lee? Uncomplicated or passionate?

"Your boyfriend snores," a familiar voice said behind her. Kara turned to face Saul Tigh sitting on the floor with Ellen's head resting in his lap as she slept. "I'll tell you a secret to avoid hangovers: Don't stop drinking."

Her head was pounding. Kara got up and walked in the colonel's direction, sitting by his side on the floor. She took the bottle out of Tigh's hands and drank from it, putting the half-emptied container on the floor between them when she was done.

"Well, I think that is the first drink you've ever had with me, Captain Kara Thrace," Tigh stated. "Must be a special occasion."

And what an occasion… "I slept with Lee last night," she said without looking at him. Kara didn't have any idea why she had told him that, it just felt right, even though he was the XO. She assumed the man wouldn't give a damn.

His response was nothing like she had expected. The man started laughing like he was insane.

She turned slowly to look at Tigh shooting him a threatening glare. "Would you stop it? It's not funny." He laughed even more. "It's not!" Seconds later she was laughing at her own disgrace as well. "I'm such an idiot."

"Oh, you said it, I didn't," Tigh declared.

They stopped laughing and turned serious in a matter of seconds.

"Hey, why don't you tell me all about it?" he asked.

She looked at him. He really cared. "I've got to make a move," she told him. "One way or the other."

"It's combat," he told her. "Survival instinct starts kicking in. You make a choice and you don't look back."

"Survival instinct, hum?" she asked without looking at the XO. "Yeah."

She grabbed the bottle again and took another drink before getting up.

"Where are you going?" Tigh asked her.

"I'm making a choice," Kara told him as she walked in Sam's direction and shook him awake.

"Just a few more minutes, coach," Sam murmured still sleeping.

"I'm not your coach, Sam," she told him as she shook him harder.

He slightly opened his eyes. "Kara? Why are you waking me up? It's still too early."

"There's something I need to tell you, Sam," she told him.

"Later," he said as he turned again to sleep.

"Don't make me say this here, Sam," she told him. "We should talk about this alone."

"Go away," he murmured.

Kara took a deep breath. If she delayed what she wanted to do, she might lose her guts to do that. "There's someone else, Sam."

He opened one eye and stared at her. "What?"

"You're a great guy, Sam, really, but I have to make a choice and, gods help me, I'm taking the hard pick," she told him. "I'm sorry."

"Wait, you're dumping me?" he asked her, sitting up after being completely woken up by her shocking words.

"Technically, I'm not dumping you, I'm correcting a mistake I made," she said.

Before he could ask why, she continued. "I cheated on you last night, Sam. I have casual fraks but cheating on somebody I have a relationship with is not my thing, still I did it and I'm sorry for doing it to you, 'cause you didn't deserve it." I'm in love with someone else.

She turned around al left, taking Tigh's bottle with her.

The XO nodded at her. "Don't look back."

Kara did as Tigh said and just kept walking, ignoring Sam's calls.

--

Cold was the first thing Lee Adama felt when he woke up. Kara was gone. He had fallen asleep with her form wrapped around him but her weight was not there anymore. Where is she? Lee asked himself.

"Nice to finally see you awake, fly boy," he heard her voice saying. He turned to his right side and there she was, fully dressed, sitting with her back against a rock and holding a bottle that he didn't recall seeing in the previous night. She passed him the bottle. "Tigh says the best cure for a hangover is to keep drinking. The gods know he has experience in this stuff."

"Why are you dressed?" he asked her after taking a drink like she had told him. His eyes were still half-closed because the daylight was too bright to him.

"I had an errand to run," she told him simply. Kara crawled to his side and lied in there next to him.

"You meant it didn't you? What you said last night about loving me?" he asked her as she put her head back in his chest.

"Every single word," she confirmed. "But things are not that easy, Lee. I left this morning because I needed to think. I had to pick you or Sam. I might love you, but Sam was the easy choice."

"You picked Sam," he murmured faintly. She's here to say goodbye.

"I picked you," she corrected him, shifting her body so she was on top of him and could look him in the eyes. "Call me insane but I broke up with Sam and ignored the easy path. I guess I'll have to think out of the box from now on. Good thing the Old Man says that is my forte."

"You broke up with Sam," he stated, with a giant smile in his face.

"We'll end up killing each other but I want you," she said.

He put his hand behind her neck and softly covered her lips with his own. "I want you too, Kara."

She kissed him again. "Have I mentioned last night that you have one hell of a body?" Kara asked him, roaming her hands on his chest.

"You don't look bad yourself" he said, nibbling the skin in her neck, causing her to moan in return.

"We need to return to the city, Lee," she managed to whisper. "You still have to take care of your part of the deal."

He groaned. "You're right. Technically I'm still cheating on Dee."

"Dee's a good person. She doesn't deserve it," Kara told him. She rolled of him, letting him redress and he helped her up when he was done.

Lee had his arm around her waist as they walked. In his mind, last night was replaying over and over, especially the moment he and Kara had shared after they shouted their love for each other to the skies.

--

They were kissing in the moonlight and Lee could barely believe that was actually happening. He had made love to the woman he had been in love with for far longer than he would like to admit.

Kara broke the kiss and looked him in the eyes. She looked so vulnerable… Her walls were definitely down at that moment.

"Are you sure I'm what you want?" she asked in a whisper, not taking her eyes of his.

"Yeah you're what I want. And I just don't… I don't think I really knew it until I said it out loud just now," he replied, taking a deep breath after making that confession.

She just kept staring at him, a question playing in her mind. "Why? Because of Zak?"

Lee waited a few seconds before answering. "Yeah, and a lot of things," he stated." Um… but mostly because I was afraid to admit how much I needed you. How much I needed anyone."

She nodded and smiled softly. "Yeah," she agreed. She felt like if she died that moment, she would die happy.

"I love you, Kara Thrace," Lee declared, resting his forehead against hers.

"I love you two," she murmured. The sound of these words felt so unusual but at the same time so right coming out of her mouth.

He kissed her passionately again. She openly smiled against his mouth and their lips parted. Then, he simply wrapped his arms around her body and Kara continued smiling against his shoulder.

--

They were together now, deep inside, he was still expecting to wake up in his rack after a very realistic dream where he would sleep with Kara and they would become a couple. But it was not a dream, it was reality.

"We'll have a lot of explaining to do…" he murmured as they strolled through the tent city's streets.

"Don't remind me of that," Kara replied. She noticed the Admiral standing a few feet away. "Look, there's your father."

Lee sighed and they kept going until they reached the Old Man.

"Good morning, Admiral," he greeted his father.

Adama turned to them. He looked relaxed, his coat hanging open and with his hands in his pockets.

"You two look like you had a good time," he stated, noticing the closeness between the two of them. They were smiling. The Admiral felt dared to say that they had never looked that happy before.

"Yeah, it was some party," Kara said.

The Admiral looked at the pair. The way Lee and Kara were acting with each other… He was sure he had missed something. "Is there something you two want to tell me?" he asked.

Lee saw a raptor with Dee sitting in the co-pilot seat landing in the background. "Ask us that again when I get back, okay Dad?" He looked at Kara and she gave him an encouraging look. Then, he turned away and walked to the raptor's direction. Dee was already exiting it.

"Good morning, Commander," she greeted him. "Ready to go back to our ship?"

"Dee, we need to talk," he said.

--

Meanwhile, Kara was alone with the Admiral watching Lee and Dualla talk.

"I saw your boyfriend half an hour ago. He didn't look happy," Adama stated.

"He's not my boyfriend anymore. We split up earlier this morning," she told him.

"Oh, that could explain his mood," the Old Man said. Next to the raptor, he saw Dee slapping his son and running away, crying.

Lee walked back in their direction with his head down.

"What was that?" he asked his son, trying to understand what had just happened between Lee and his girlfriend.

"That was me breaking up with Dee," he said.

"But why? Is today breakup day or something?" he asked. Adama had just noticed his son's relationship with Dualla during the party in the previous night. It surprised him to see them splitting up this soon…

"That would be my fault, sir," Kara stated, looking at the floor.

"Kara and I are together now, Dad," Lee told his father.

The Admiral stared at them. They were holding hands discreetly, comforting each other and looked somewhat fearful of what his opinion about their relationship would be. He turned to Kara. "Do you love my son?"

"Yes," she said firmly. She was sure there was no way she would admit it 24 hours ago.

He turned to Lee.

"I love her too," Lee answered his father's unspoken question.

"That's all I need to know. I have to confess that in the back of my mind I had been asking for this for a long time," the Admiral declared.

"The fraternization regs…" Lee started.

"Forget them," the Older Adama said. "Laura advised me to call them off and I agree with her. We need babies in this fleet. Make sure you keep that in mind."

Lee felt Kara's body tense. "We just got together last night, Dad, hold your horses in there," he told his father.

"What about Zak? Doesn't knowing I've been with him bother you?" Kara inquired.

"Zak is not here and I'm sure wherever he is he just wants you two to be happy," The Admiral said and took one step in his son's direction and gave him a manly hug. "She's a tough one. Don't stop fighting for her," he whispered in his son's ear so Kara would not hear.

Next, it was Kara's turn to receive a hug. "Sir, can I ask you a favor?" she asked him when they broke apart.

"Name it," he said.

"I'd like to be transferred to Pegasus," she said in a low, almost shy, voice.

Lee looked at her. "I thought you wanted to settle in the planet."

"Sam was the one who wanted it. But now things changed, now…"

"You want to be close to Lee," the Admiral finished. "We'll miss you in Galactica, Kara. But I guess I can't hold you back. Between this rock and Pegasus, I prefer seeing you in the later. Just make sure you two pay this old man a visit from time to time."

"Anything for you, sir," she told him.

"Excuse me, sirs," Racetrack, who had been piloting the ship that had brought Dee to the planet, said. "It's just that we need to take Commander Adama back to Pegasus and the raptor will be needed in an hour for other transportations."

Lee looked at Kara and then at his father.

"You can take her with you. I'll send you the transference paperwork in a few hours," the Old Man said.

They said goodbye to the older Adama and minutes later, Kara and Lee were both sitting in the back of a raptor. She was resting her head in his shoulder.

"If someone told me yesterday that today we'd be like this one day later, I'd have laughed in that person's face," she told him.

"Good to be wrong, hum?" he asked her.

"Good to be wrong," she repeated. "I guess you're stuck with me now, Apollo."

"Well, you can be a pain in the ass sometimes and you are able to piss me off royally, but I love you more than anything," he said. "That's what matters."

As a response, she kissed him passionately, their tongues tasting and their lips brushing against each other's. They had to break apart to take a breath. "I love you too, even though sometimes you sound like you have a stick up your ass and all."

"Shut up and kiss me," Lee told her with a smile. He crashed his lips on hers once again.

--

In the cockpit, Racetrack heard the conversation in the back of the raptor.

"I guess I just won 1000 cubits from Hotdog," she murmured to herself.
