Unwavering courage is not to say that one is fearless.
To be without fear is to be a fool. To have unwavering courage is to put the fear down, to swallow it, and to push past the idea that you may very well die. It is the trait required to be in Demacia's elite Dauntless Vanguard, one that is treasured among the strong military that the country possesses. However, being able to look death in the eye daily, to be undaunted on the battlefield, is not something that should make a soldier cold and hardened to the existence of others. Unfortunately, it often has horribly negative effects akin to heartlessness on those who are able to uphold this standard, but that does not mean that it should.
This is why the man chosen to lead this group had to be unique, enough parts human to be able to inspire and encourage, but the rest of him savage animal with enough conviction to kill ruthlessly.
Compassion.
It took great strength to comfort a butchered soldier, assuring him that his fight had not been in vain; it took even greater strength to know when to leave this man behind for the sake of other lives.
Focus.
Being able to sacrifice all for the greater good—to accomplish the mission—without overlooking the needs of his men.
Balance.
To know when it was too much, but being able to push the limits without harming his own soldiers.
These tasks were things that many of Noxus's generals were not able to accomplish. It took an honorable man to respect his followers, something that the corrupt nation did not have many of. But even in Demacia, a city known for its loyalty to her people, a leader like this was hard to come by.
But then there was Garen, Demacia's pride, a man of values and sacrifice, but a heart for the people.
He was someone who took care of his soldiers, and in turn, was taken care of by them.
He was the commander they wanted, a symbol of courage. The perfect leader of the elite.
He was everything they needed.
Loyal.
Kind.
Unwavering.
Remarkable.
He was the voice of the strong.
Garen was many a thing, but most of all, his courage stood out one in a hundred.
Undaunted.
A/N: Well then, first League fic ever. I may or may not have an obsession with character studies, to tell the truth. I'm also quite well versed in drabbles. The only unfortunate part of this is that the word dauntless is going to be affiliated with Divergent forever. 0.5/10 would not recommend that series.
