Hi Guys! I'm back with another story! Don't worry about "What time could tell", I will finish it. I just wanted to try my hand, or computer, at a fic about Comanche Moon. Hope you enjoy it! Also, while this fic is rated M, it will not be graphic. There will just be a lot of violence and by looking at the rating guide, this rating seemed more appropriate. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 1: Oops
Woodrow Call was in trouble. He glanced around the table at the five other men sitting there, and then looked back down at his cards. How had he allowed his friend Gus, Augustus to those who didn't know him well, to talk him into this? Gus McCrae was also looking at his cards, albeit a little cross-eyed from all the whiskey he had to drink.
"Are you in or out?" asked a grizzled man who sat across from Woodrow.
"I'm out," said Woodrow. "I've already lost too much to you fella's". Truth be told, Woodrow was fairly sure that the men had been cheating. As a Texas Ranger, it was his duty to handle such matters, but he and Gus were vastly outnumbered and he decided to let the matter slide this time.
"How about you?" the same man asked of Gus. Gus studied his cards and said:
"I'm in." One of the other men who sat at the table looked at Gus.
"You cannot be serious," he said with a Southern twang. "You don't got any money left."
"My friend," said Gus slapping him on the shoulder, "I have something better then money and that's friendship." He looked at Woodrow. "Woodrow, can I borrow some money?"
"No Augustus, you cannot borrow some money. I'm tapped out just like you." Gus glared at him then turned to the Southerner.
"I have a horse. A young strong horse. Will that suffice?" The horse Gus talked about was neither young nor strong. In fact, on their way there Woodrow had been afraid that the horse might collapse. He leaned across the table towards Gus.
"What horse may that be? Did you get a new one here in town?"
"Shut up Woodrow!" Gus waved a hand dismissively at him then turned to the Southerner.
"Will that do?" he asked again.
"Of course," said the man.
Two minutes later, Gus was out of a horse and a ride home. He stared down at the cards in disbelief.
"How did you win?" he asked the Southern man. "I had an unbeatable hand!"
"Apparently it wasn't quite as unbeatable as you thought," the man replied.
"Yes it was," Gus replied. "I think you're a cheat! No wonder you won all night!" The man looked back at Gus with amusement.
"Friend, I think you have had too much to drink." Turning to Woodrow he said, "Why don't you take your friend home before he falls over?"I think I'll do that friend," said Woodrow. He grabbed Gus's shoulder and began to pull him towards the saloon door.
"Come on Gus. I think we're done here."
"We ain't" Gus said as he shook off Woodrow's arm. He turned again to the men at the table, "I think you're all cheats!" he said. The men at the table rose in unison and moved towards the two.
"Gus, you are an idiot!" said Woodrow.
"I am not! You were thinking the same things I was."
"I was, but at least I had enough sense to keep them to myself!" More men joined the four and began to form a ring around the two friends.
"Oops," Gus said.
