The Woman In Black
She could still hear his voice,
Not that she had much of a choice.
He was constantly whispering in her ear,
Words she yearned to hear,
But that were never quite clear.
She saw him beneath closed eyes when she slept,
And through wide ones when she would least expect.
But six months wasn't nearly long enough,
To forget a tragedy that was so rough.
On the inside she fell into black,
From which she was sure she wasn't ever coming back.
And in the land of the dead she walked,
Where with his ghost she talked.
Because no one,
Not even the Grim Reaper himself who had won,
Would dare kiss a woman in black.
She was wounded and forlorn,
A woman cursed to forever mourn.
He filled her brain,
From the memories where he had once lain.
So little time had they shared,
With the love that flared.
But with great love came a high price to pay,
When one of them passed away.
Life was dark and grim,
As long as she wasn't free of him.
And she might never be,
But perhaps she didn't want to be.
For without him she was only half herself,
And never again could she fill the void he left on the shelf.
Through the lonely nights she would lie,
Wide awake she held herself and cried,
Beside the emptiness he left on the bed,
Lying as stiff and as still as the dead.
And she thought to herself that she might as well be,
Because as far as she could see,
She was still dressed in black,
And maybe she didn't want to come back.
Because what else was there to live for if not for him?
She wanted to feel betrayed,
When he left her alone to play her charade,
Of the lonely widow,
Cast in her shadow.
But her love never once waned;
For it could not be restrained,
And he could not be blamed.
But wherever she went,
The story they wrote in cement,
Was apart of who she was.
And love him she does.
For all eternity would she remain,
His Lady Mary Crawley all the same.
