Disclaimer: All characters belong to Adachi Toka. This is just a fluffy, short one-shot I wrote during Algebra II when I probably should have been paying attention to the lesson. *shrugs* Oh well. I hope you enjoy!
Hiyori glanced over at Yato's curled up form on the floor in the corner of the room. She accidently stayed longer than she intended at Daikoku and Kofuku's and Yato had fallen asleep on her. Yukine was currently out with Kazuma practicing his boundaries.
I should probably leave Yato to get his sleep. He definitely needs it, she thought as she quietly stood up. Bending down, she covered him with a blank before heading down to say goodbye to Daikoku and Kofuku. Just as she was out the doorway, Yato stirred.
"Don't go yet, Hiyori" he whispered and rolled over to face her. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and sat up.
The said girl came to a stop and turned around to look back at him. She could have sworn he was asleep. "You need to get some sleep, Yato," she said quietly. "With everything that's been going on, rest is vital."
"But I can't sleep," he complained then patted the vacant spot next to him. "At least stay until I do."
Hiyori faintly smiled. "You're like a little kid."
Yato pouted. "Please, Hiyori?"
Hiyori sighed, but came back inside the room and gingerly sat where Yato pointed. She scooted back until her back met the wall and leaned her head against it. It was quiet for a few seconds. Peering over at Yato, she saw he was already looking up at her.
"Why aren't you able to sleep?" she asked and stretched out her legs.
Yato adverted her gaze and stared at the wall. "Nothing really. I've just been having a few nightmares, that's all." He sprawled on his stomach and hugged his pillow.
"About what? That is, if you don't mind my asking."
"My dad," Yato mumbled into his pillow.
Hiyori frowned and gently patted him on the head. "Don't put too much thought into them. They're just dreams. It'll be fine."
Yato loved how soft Hiyori's voice could be. It was nice to listen to. He scooted closer to her and put his head on her lap. Bracing himself in case she pushed her off and called him a pervert, he was pleasantly surprised when she didn't. He looked up at her to see she wasn't even looking at him, but rather at the opposite wall with a spaced-out expression.
Hiyori absent-mindedly began to run her fingers through Yato's hair. The gesture was comforting and he closed his eyes. Curling his body up next to her, he let out a content sigh, almost like a cat purring.
They stayed like that for a long time, neither one speaking. After what could have been a few minutes or a few hours, Hiyori glanced down at Yato and saw he asleep. She listened to his slow and even breathes until she was positive he was asleep. She considered getting up to leave Yato to his peaceful sleep, but when she shifted slightly, one of his hands came up to grasp the bottom of her shirt in his sleep. He mumbled something and curled up even closer to her.
Hiyori quietly sighed, but didn't make another attempt to leave. Going back to running her finger through Yato's hair-for she also found this oddly comforting- she realized she didn't mind staying like this for a while.
A/N: This was my first attempt at writing Yatori. I recently watched Noragami and am almost caught up in the manga, and I absolutely adore these two. Please leave a review with your thoughts, they're much appreciated! Thank you for reading. :)
