"Why did you watch that movie?"
Jack shakes his head violently from under the blankets.
"What made it interest you?"
Jack paused for a second before answering.
"It seemed cool."
"Can you tell me what it was about?"
"Stop being overprotective."
"I am your mother. I am allowed to be overprotective."
Jack sighed. "It was about a guy that was haunted by a boy who claimed to be his deceased son."
"How did the son die?"
"That's the part that doesn't make sense. The boy claimed he was the baby that his pregnant wife was carrying. But the wife died, and the boy was saying that he killed the wife and him."
"Did he..?"
Jack stayed quiet for a second. "We don't know."
"I honestly don't know why you kids watch those scary movies. And worse, why you get scared by them. They are just fictional movies that forever alone guys make when they want to ruin children's lives by scaring them."
Jack laughs awkwardly.
"Why are you hiding?"
Jack considers this question. "The blanket acts as a force field."
"Yes, 'cause the killer is going to come in and be like, 'Ima kill… awe dang! He's a under a blanket!'"
"Mom!" Jack popped open the blanket and looked at his mother, terrified.
She put her arms up in defense. "Sleep, or you can never go to the movies with the guys… and Kim, again. Ever."
Jack mumbled a "goodnight" before curling the blankets around himself again.
No matter how old he got, he always gets scared at scary movies. "Keep the lights on."
His mother left with a groan and a small chuckle.
To be continued…
