Beginning

They had known each other for years, Hiei reflected. Years that seemed to pass in the blink of an eye when he thought about them. Years that had run the gamut: from their very first meeting as enemies to the giving and receiving of their names; from becoming allies in their first and only criminal endeavor together to their roles as betrayer and betrayed when Kurama had followed the dictates of his conscience and aided Yusuke in Hiei's defeat and capture; from fighting partners, on parole and helping Spirit World and Yusuke in defense of the Living World, to a deep and abiding friendship that had survived two tournaments and the Sensui debacle. And now – this.
But what was still to come? Or was this all…the end, Hiei wondered.
"No," Kurama laughed softly, as ever divining his small lover's thoughts. A slender finger reached down and tilted Hiei's chin up so that vermillion eyes met viridian, and Kurama leaned in, placing a feather-soft kiss against lips already kiss-swollen. "It is just the beginning, my love," he finished, settling the small body in his arms against his body once more.
Hiei snuggled more fully into that warm embrace, his own arms tightening around the fox. The beginning, he thought with a yawn as he settled himself to sleep.
He liked that idea.
