Nightmare
Roxas wandered through the streets of Twilight Town, looking for Hayner and the others. He had had a bad night's sleep and wanted to get it out of his mind. He assumed Axel would be with them, since they'd hit it off right away, Hayner being of a similar attitude to Axel. He was glad his two best friends got along. It always made things easier, or more competitive and fun.
He approached the Secret Hideout in the Back Alley, and heard conversation inside. Ah good, sounds like all four are here. He stepped through the curtain. "Man, I could not sleep last night," he said, yawning. The others didn't answer him. It was like they hadn't heard him at all, actually. "Guys?" No response. Suddenly they all got up and walked toward the alley…walking straight through him!
What…just happened? Roxas gasped, his eyes widening in fear. No. No no no no, not again, please not again! This situation had happened before, when DiZ tore his existence from his data Twilight Town copy to force him to rejoin with Sora. It had taken so long for the researchers to find a way to safely separate Roxas from Sora into his own person, and then for him to summon the courage to meet Hayner and the gang again, trying to pretend as if he didn't know them so well already. Now it looked like that situation was coming true again. But why? What's going on? This shouldn't be happening!
"Hayner! Pence! Olette!" he cried. Please, let them hear me! But they didn't. They kept walking and joking with each other as they always had. Axel clapped Hayner on the shoulder, grinning at his latest story. It felt like he had been replaced, not just by the gang, but by Axel too. That hurt most of all. "Axel. Axel! AXEL!"
"Roxas! Roxas, wake up! I'm right here, it's okay!"
Roxas' eyes snapped open suddenly, and he scanned the area, still panicking. Beside him, Axel continued to shake his shoulders, waking him up as best he could. "What? What's going on? Axel? Wha…"
Axel let him go as he realized the blonde was up. "You were crying out. You must've been having a nightmare."
Roxas sighed in relief. "Yes…a nightmare. Thank God. I'm not a ghost anymore. My friends still remember me."
"Still remember you? I hope I wasn't included in that dream. I promise I would never forget you, Roxas. I love you." Axel kissed the blonde softly. "Now go back to sleep. I'm right beside you." Axel wrapped his arms around Roxas.
"Okay." Roxas snuggled into Axel's embrace, at peace now that he knew it had only been a nightmare. He was sure that safe in Axel's arms, he'd have only good dreams the rest of the night.
