"Dylan, can I borrow the Andromeda?" Beka asked. Dylan looked up from his console.
"Why? You going gambling?" He grinned as she glared at him.
"No, I have an old contract for moving a space station. I tried it before, but the ship I was using didn't have enough engine power." She shrugged.
"What were you using, the Maru?" Dylan asked. Harper grinned from across the room.
"Sort of. It was the Teesa Maru. The Eureka's sister ship." Harper laughed.
"Sounds like there's a story there." Rhade said from the weapons console.
"Most assuredly. Beka, would you like to tell us?" Dylan said, tapping on the data flexi.
"I'd actually rather not, but since I know you'll insist." Beka sighed.
Flash back, with Beka's voice over.
'It was about oh a year before we found you. I'd just won the rights to the contract, and the Teesa in the same card game. It was an open ended contract, but I wanted to do it as soon as possible. So, Harper had the bright Idea of modifying one of the ships into a flying engine. I let him have the Teesa.' She glared at him. He shrugged. 'So we landed it, and he got to work. He stripped out everything that wasn't important, including the vinyl interiors. Then he added two more engines. It was horrendously ugly, but it had twice the thrust at half power, that the Maru's got at full power. We had to tow it into space, since he'd removed the launch systems. Once we got it up, he set it to autopilot, and it followed us to the station. It didn't even have its own slipstream drive. He'd ripped that out as well.' Harper chuckled. 'Anyway, we latched onto that station with the Teesa, and Harper hit the engines. All five at once. It wasn't that big of a station, and it was in deep space, so it should have been moved with ease. It did move, about 5 feet, and Harper upped the engine power.'
'Someone had left the manuevering thrusters on hold position, so it started fighting. We stopped, and hopped on, and shut them off. We even drained it of atmosphere. Once we were clear, Harper fired the Teesa again. It started to move, very easily, and we were on the way to the slip portal, when the Teesa seemed to buck, and then it exploded. That tripped the stations thrusters again, and it moved back where it was. I still don't have any Idea what happened.'
Dylan laughed once. Rhade was chuckling.
"So can we use it?" Beka asked.
"Are you sure we've got the engine power Mr. Harper?" Dylan asked.
"You bet, Rommie's got three times what the Teesa had. In fact, you could probably scoop it up into one of the landing bays. It's not big, just heavy."
"Sounds like a plan. What's it called?"
"Sura Drift." Beka said shrugging.
"Are you positive?" Dylan said, eyes wide.
"Yes, why?" Beka asked suspisciously.
"Rommie, show her."
The main view screen flickered for second, then an ad played.
"Now at Sura drift, the Commonwealths biggest casino. The Sura Royal. Three times the size of the original drift, the Sura Royal is the best casino you'll ever find." The advertisement finished. Beka spun 'round, snarling in anger, and stalked off the command deck. Harper sighed. Dylan laughed. Trance shrugged and went back to work. Rhade continued to chuckle.
